    WHAT ARE YOU HEARING?

“This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”

    Galatians 3:2 (KJV)

Your perspective on life is a result of the knowledge you carry. Your knowledge is a result of what you hear.

You cannot be better than the things you hear.

Your thought patterns and life are a reflection of the information you keep absorbing.

Paul the apostle, writing to the brethren in Galatia, asked rhetorically, If they received the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith?

He asked a similar question in his epistle to the Romans,

“But how can people call on him for help if they’ve not yet believed? And how can they believe in one they’ve not yet heard of? And how can they hear the message of life if there is no one there to proclaim it?” Romans 10:14 (TPT)

You cannot believe it until you hear. What you hear influences how you live.

If you hear words of faith, you live consistently by faith.

When you hear words of doubt and fear, you will constantly live in doubt and fear. You will not be able to take steps or make bold decisions. You will always be afraid.

But the knowledge you receive will influence your confidence.

When Daniel received understanding through the reading of the scriptures, it influenced his prayers. (Read on the Liberating Power of Reading).

We hear by what we read or watch and what we listen to. And what you hear determines your level of knowledge.

God doesn’t just want you to be saved; he wants you to grow in knowledge (1 Timothy 2:4).

You can only have the right knowledge when you give your mind to the right truth.

Be intentional about what you hear.

In my book Photizo (A Compendium of Eternal Verities) Alpha Edition, I explained the need to go for accurate knowledge.

You must become a student of the word, be like the Bereans, who didn’t just give their minds to anything at all they heard. They committed themselves to studying. They decided to be sure that whatever they heard was consistent with the scriptures.

As a new creation in Christ, give your mind to the revelation of Jesus. Anything you hear must be consistent with the testimony of Jesus.

The revelation of Jesus will shift and shape your mindsets.

You will live victoriously when you keep hearing the glorious things Christ has victoriously accomplished for you through His death and resurrection.

Paul was able to see faith in a man in Lystra who had never walked from birth.
Where did the faith come from? By hearing the preaching of Paul.

The man’s heart was so much flooded with the word of faith that when Paul asked him to stand on his feet, in the name of Jesus, he instantly jumped to his feet for the first time and walked (Acts 14:8-10).

    What a transformation!

You are reading this now, and may be thinking your life has come to an end, and nothing good will come out of your situation.

Precious one, your thoughts are a result of what you are hearing. Stop hearing your pain, stop hearing your challenges, stop hearing the doubts, stop hearing the projections of fear and guilt from the adversary.

Turn away from the negative words and projections of the devil. Set your eyes on the might and awesomeness of the Lord.

Give your ears and heart to the transformational word of faith. Hear what the Lord is saying through His word. The word of the Lord is the glorious gospel. The gospel means goodnews.

This goodnews of Jesus will set the direction of your life towards the experience and enjoyment of grace, glory and manifold blessings.

    Beloved, choose to hear right!!!

    Selah.

THE LIBERATING POWER OF READING THE WORD

During the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, learned from reading the word of the LORD, as revealed to Jeremiah the prophet, that Jerusalem must lie desolate for seventy years

    Daniel 9:2 (NIV)

God created the world by speaking words. Therefore, it takes understanding and knowledge of the words of God to effectively interact with the universe of God.

God inspired men to properly document His words for the benefit of those who will read and believe.

These men did not write the scriptures by their own will.

“No part of the Holy Writings came long ago because of what man wanted to write. But holy men who belonged to God spoke what the Holy Spirit told them.” 2 Peter 1:21 (NLV)

Which means any one who communes with the writings of the scriptures, will grow in the understanding of God’s thoughts and principles.

The scriptures have what it takes to make you wise (2 Timothy 3:15), because they articulate the wisdom of God.

God doesn’t want you to be ignorant. He wants you to be established in the understanding of His truth. By that, you shall not be decieved as the first couple (Adam and Eve) were decieved by the serpent.

The only way the adversary can stop you from fulfilling God’s purpose for your life is by means of deception.

And the way to escape the deception of the adversary is by the understanding and knowledge of the truth.

You cannot grow in knowledge without accessing the knowledge of God.

In his writing, Luke said, “Dear friend,
I am writing for you, mighty lover of God, an orderly account of what Jesus, the Anointed One, accomplished and fulfilled among us. Several eyewitness biographies have already been written, using as their source material the good news preached among us by his early disciples, who became loving servants of the Living Expression. But now I am passing on to you this accurate compilation of my own meticulous investigation based on numerous eyewitness interviews and thorough research of the story of his life. It is appropriate for me to write this, for he also appeared to me so that I would reassure you beyond any shadow of a doubt the reliability of all you have been taught of him.” Luke 1:1-4 (TPT)

Though Luke was inspired to write the gospel, he first gained understanding by reading other accounts.

And one major means by which you can access the rich knowledge of God, is by reading the word of God.

One of the best things which can happen to you is to have the ability to read; precisely reading the scriptures.

Anyone who reads and understands the scriptures walks in liberty. The knowledge of the truth makes you free.

Whiles the Israelites were in captivity, Daniel the prophet was interested in knowing when the captivity and desolation of Israel will end.

Though he was a prophet and a prime minister, Daniel committed himself to thorough study and reading of the divine oracles.

He understood by books (which was mainly the compilations of the prophetic writings of the Prophet Jeremiah). The prophet Jeremiah wrote concerning the captivity, desolation of Jerusalem and the number of years by which the desolation of Jerusalem will be completed. (See Jeremiah 5:9,11-12; 29:10)
The understanding he received by reading the prophetic writings influenced the intercession he had to make for the deliverance of Israel and Jerusalem.

Daniel could have prayed wrongly if he had not received understanding.

People pray and don’t receive answers because they pray amiss. It is only by ignorance will a person pray amiss. (James 4:3).

Reading the scriptures exposes you to the rich realities which the Lord has already given to you. Definitely, there are some matters in scriptures which may require explanation by those who are equipped with understanding.

An example of it was the Ethiopian Eunuch who didn’t understand the writing of the Prophet Isaiah and needed Philip to help him with what he was reading (Acts 8:27-38).

The Lord has also equipped sound teachers of the word in this generation to provide detail exposition of the scriptures to illuminate the hearts of believers. Just as you now have access to Machaira with Apostle Bennie.

Reading this devotional will usher you into perfect understanding of the word of God.

TAKE THE WORD AS IT IS

“Jesus looked at her and said, “Didn’t I tell you that if you will believe in me, you will see God unveil his power?”

    John 11:40 (TPT)

Until you learn to esteem God’s Word in your life, your focus towards God may be impaired.

There are times, because you may feel disappointed that God didn’t do things as you expected, you begin to doubt His word.

God always has a bigger picture for your life; therefore, you don’t put Him in a box or set boundaries for Him.

No challenge should be big enough to move you away from God. No challenge should be big enough to make you doubt God.

From the beginning of John 11, we can see that Jesus received a message concerning Lazarus’ health condition. And knowing how Jesus loved Mary, Martha and Lazarus, they were expecting a different response from Jesus than what happened.

“One day Lazarus became very sick to the point of death. So his sisters sent a message to Jesus, “Lord, our brother Lazarus, the one you love, is very sick. Please come!”
When he heard this, he said, “This sickness will not end in death for Lazarus, but will bring glory and praise to God. This will reveal the greatness of the Son of God by what takes place.” Now even though Jesus loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, he remained where he was for two more days. Finally, on the third day, he said to his disciples, “Come. It’s time to go to Bethany”. John 11:2-7 (TPT).

Now, when Jesus arrived, His friend Lazarus had been dead and buried for four days.
Now, clearly, Mary and Martha were disappointed that Jesus didn’t come early. And they all expressed their disappointment uniquely.

But let me draw your attention to a similar situation.
The story of the Roman Centurion, he had a servant who was sick and requested Jesus to speak a word instead of visiting him. (See Matthew 8:5-13).
Mary and Martha could have demonstrated similar faith to see their brother healed. Well, they were disappointed instead, and we see Martha responding wrongly to Jesus.

Don’t allow your experiences (which may also include your disappointments), assumptions, and limited knowledge, define your response to God’s word.

To exercise absolute confidence in God’s Word, take God’s Word as it is. Don’t read your preconceived motive into His word.
Martha went to meet Jesus when He was approaching their village:

Martha said to Jesus, “My Lord, if only you had come sooner, my brother wouldn’t have died. But I know that if you were to ask God for anything, he would do it for you.” Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise and live.” She replied, “Yes, I know he will rise with everyone else on resurrection day.” John 11:21-24 (TPT).

Martha believed in Jesus at the level of what she had experienced, not according to the Word of the Lord.
She has seen and heard that Jesus healed the sick. However, she didn’t know Jesus as the resurrection and the life.
When Jesus said, your brother shall rise, she responded with head knowledge:

“Yes, I know he will rise with everyone else on resurrection day.”.

However, to walk in absolute confidence in God’s word, you must respond to God with your heart.

This was why even after Jesus had explained that He is the resurrection and the life, Martha had to make an argument about the decomposition of Lazarus’ body.

She was still responding to Jesus according to her head knowledge. Faith is responding to God according to His word and not by how you feel.

Stand and act consistently according to the WORD and not your mere experience.

    Selah.

The audacity of David was by the knowledge of God which was in him. He was one who passionately longed after God and desired to share in His intimate knowledge.

He said, “Lord, I passionately love you and I’m bonded to you! I want to embrace you, for now you’ve become my power!” Psalm 18:1 (TPT).

You don’t perish by the lack of knowledge in science. You perish when you lack the knowledge of God.

The knowledge of God in you brings you into the full understanding and possession of the glorious inheritance in Christ Jesus.

When you become born again, you don’t automatically grow into the full knowledge of God. As I always say, you must be intentional about your growth in the knowledge of God.

You have to intentionally seek after the knowledge of God. To know God is not a one-time experience, but a lifetime journey.

The more you grow in knowledge and understanding of God, the more you develop the desire and longing to know Him more.

Those who don’t see the need to pursue the knowledge of God are those who have not yet come to the place of understanding.

The opening verse says the mouth of fools pursues foolishness. It takes a heart of understanding to seek after God’s knowledge.

“Lovers of God hunger after truth, but those without understanding feast on foolishness and don’t even realize it.” Proverbs 15:14 (TPT).

You can see how Paul, even in his maturity, still desired and remained committed in his pursuit to know God. (Philippians 3:10).

Make it a priority to seek after the knowledge of God in this new month.

    WISDOM KEYS FROM PSALM 37 — DON’T ENVY THE WICKED 6 –

You Have a Peaceful Prosperous Future 1

“But you can tell who are the blameless and spiritually mature. What a different story with them! The godly ones will have a peaceful, prosperous future.

    Psalm 37:37 (TPT)

Psalm 37 is a refreshing song of wisdom.

Every believer must glean and feast on the virtues dispensed by the prophetic Psalmist.

He addressed critical issues and established the certainty of hope for the godly.

He emphasized that a child of God must not in any way envy the wicked.
The wicked plot and use evil means to attain momentary, short-lived success and happiness. All they gather withers away. Those who do evil have no value and their seeming glory fades away.

You will see them trending everywhere and celebrated by the ignorant, don’t envy them. These people when they don’t turn to God will be gone tomorrow. (See verse 20)

For this reason, “…don’t think for a moment that the wicked in their prosperity are better off than you” (Psalm 37:1)

Some believers invest time and energy desiring to have the success of the wicked. Interestingly, these people invest time in plotting against the godly with all their sneers and arrogant jeers. These people take advantage of the helpless and will go to any extent to slaughter those who do right. (Verse 12-14)

Don’t waste time admiring them. Your life is even a threat to their schemes. Deal with them according to knowledge.

They admire and spy on the godly ones, stalking them to find something they could use to accuse them. They’re out for the kill! But God foils all their plots. (See verse 32,33)

The good news is, their evil deeds have an expiry date and their weapons of wickedness turn against them. Their own deeds pierce their pride-filled hearts and render them helpless. (See verse 15)

These wicked and ungodly men develop hatred for God and set themselves up as enemies of God. Definitely, they rather set themselves up to perish. For a fish to deny water is to set itself up for suicide. All these who make themselves enemies of God set themselves up for eternal destruction.

No one rises against the Lord, and embarks on a journey to destroy God’s program on earth, ever lives to fulfill his evil worthless dreams (verse 20).

As a believer, you don’t have to envy these worldly and ungodly men. Follow God’s plan for your life, and labour in wisdom to create wealth. Yet, trust in the Lord as your source. Be content and patiently grow the blessings of the Lord in your life.

These wicked ones ride on deception to create wealth. They break their promises, borrow money but never pay it back. They have no sense of integrity and dignity. Don’t be like them. Be content, and as a godly man, it’s your duty of excellence to return what you owe, even with interest.  (Verse 21)

What David was sharing in this Psalm wasn’t a hypothesis. These are practical and proven wisdom.

Observe what he said in verses 35 – 38:

“I’ve already seen this happen. Once I saw a wicked and violent man overpower all who were around him, a domineering tyrant with his pride and oppressive ways. Then he died and was forgotten. Now no one cares that he is gone forever. But you can tell who are the blameless and spiritually mature. What a different story with them! The godly ones will have a peaceful, prosperous future with a happy ending. Every evil sinner will be destroyed, and obliterated. They’ll be utter failures with no future

Beloved, don’t get distracted and discouraged by the challenges confronting you today. Don’t assume God has forsaken you. Don’t conclude that your present condition is the defining factor of your tomorrow.

You have a beautiful future, just remain patient and faithful to the Lord.

Refuse to imitate the wicked. Their end is bitter and sad. Follow and imitate the Lord.

    THE 5 BETTER NOTS

“The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD, so what wisdom is in them?”

    Jeremiah 8:9 (ESV)

You cannot pursue the knowledge of God outside His Word.

You may be inexperienced or childlike, but when the Word of God enters you it informs your heart and conditions you with great understanding.

“The unfolding of Your [glorious] words give light; Their unfolding gives understanding to the simple (childlike)” Psalm 119:130 (Amplified Bible)

This is why the Psalmist desired the word of God even more than gold. And to him, the word is sweeter than honey, even the honey dripping from the comb. (Psalm 19:10).

And the word of God has no expiring date. It abides forever.

“BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.” And this is the word [the good news of salvation] which was preached to you.” 1 Peter 1:25 (Amplified Bible)

No trending issue is more current and relevant for your life today than the Word of God.

Whatever God has said in His Word is useful to you today.

“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” Romans 15:4 (ESV)

Both the failures and the success stories; the unpleasant and pleasant events were written in the scriptures for our learning. The more you esteem and study the word the richer you become in knowledge, wisdom and understanding.

The illumination of the Word sets you up ahead of your generation. It gives you an advantage of practical and experiential knowledge. It supplies you with answers to hard puzzles and enigmas of life.

The ultimate word of God has come through Christ Jesus. The full revelation of God was spoken through Christ Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2)

The revelation of the Word of God through Jesus Christ ushers you into the enjoyment of the better things we have in Christ.

In this new series, I want to address the FIVE BETTER NOTS.

In the book of Hebrews, the author pointed out BETTER THINGS God has given us through Christ Jesus.

However, there are five better nots we must consider in our walk with God. When you decide not to do these five things you will enjoy the better things which we have in Christ.

    Hallelujah!

As simple as these things are, they will help you live the higher life God has destined for you.

    1. DON’T DISREGARD the Gospel of Christ.

When you value the Gospel of Christ, you will give it all the necessary attention and will keep it as the most important treasure.

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” Hebrews 2:1 (KJV)

Until you have the attitude of not disregarding the Word of Grace, it will not bear much fruit in you. The Word of Grace brings you into the enjoyment of the great salvation Jesus has provided.
