PRACTICAL WAYS TO HONOUR YOUR LEADERS – Esteem Your Leader Highly 1
“and [we ask that you appreciate them and] hold them in the highest esteem in love because of their work [on your behalf]. Live in peace with one another.”
1 Thessalonians 5:13 (Amplified Bible)
You don’t honour your leaders by doing what pleases you or what you claim to be right. You don’t honour your leaders by doing your best. The Bible provides practical things to do to appreciate and honour your leaders.
To appreciate and honour your leader is a demonstration of the character of the Spirit. And it’s essential for the edification and growth of the Church, even for the expansion of the Kingdom.
These are practical ways to demonstrate honour:
1. Highly Esteem Your Leaders in Love.
Sometimes people make assertions that members (or the flock) overly esteem their leaders. Their leaders are not God and should not be idolized.
Get this, members whose hearts are knitted to God will not make idols out of their leaders. Leaders whose interest is to serve the purpose of God for His people wouldn’t seek such idolization.
However, Apostle Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 5:13 explain the extent leaders must be honoured.
This is how it’s put in the King James version:
“And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.” 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (KJV)
“…and to esteem them very highly in love…”
This expression is greatly enthusiastic and overwhelming in Greek.
The words (esteem, very, and highly), as translated from the Greek language, are rich in their individual meanings; much more when they are all put together in one sentence.
When you get to understand the meaning of each word, you may think it’s a repetition of an idea in Greek. However, Paul the apostle usually puts similar words in the same sentence, not just as emphasis, but to help explain the extent or degree of the point he is making.
To “esteem them very highly in love” is as Paul the apostle being verbose in the phrase “…exceedingly abundantly above all…”
Remember, I said, Paul the apostle writes in such a manner to explain the depths of the inspiration he has received.
– The word “esteem” (hēgeomai) means to consider the influence of a leader. This word is only used for high-ranking leaders or rulers.
– These four-letter words “Very” have been watered down by some people in their daily usage. But it means more than “exact, actual or precise”. Very is an emphasis of a high degree or an exceedingly high degree of a matter.
The Greek word for “Very” is “huper”, which means to place above, to go beyond or across or that which is superior to more than. Anything above more than. It suggests superiority or excess. The root word for hype or hyper can be traced to the Greek word “huper”.
Have you ever been told “you Hype your leader too much?”.
Interestingly, no one speaks against the idea that you over hype your favourite footballer or movie character or politician. Yet the moment you begin to “hype” your Church leader, they call you names.
I suppose, so far, you have an idea of what Paul the apostle is saying about honouring your leader.
– Now look at the word, “HIGHLY”.
It’s from the Greek word “perissos”. It also means superabundant (in quantity) or superior (in quality); It means preeminence, exceeding, abundantly above, more abundantly, advantage, very highly, vehemently beyond, measure more, superfluous.
Do you now get the degree at which you must demonstrate honor to your leader?
How well do you honor your leader?
Now you don’t honour your leader because of his or her age. You don’t honour your leader because of his title or position.
Paul the Apostle was clear on this: you honour your leader because of the work and sacrifice they make for you.
You don’t honour your leader because of his or her financial status or intellectual capacity.
A leader whose business is the welfare of your spirit and soul must be vehemently and superabundantly esteemed, and hyped beyond the degree the people of the world have set.
The people of the world feel agitated when the saints exceedingly esteem their spiritual leaders.
Don’t be shy to highly esteem your leader, especially in this time and age where people are looking down on Church Leaders. There are genuine Church leaders who have sacrificed their interests for the edification of the Church.
Selah.
Stay glued for tomorrow’s episode.
THANK YOU LORD JESUS 🙏🏼 ❤️
You don’t necessarily honor your leader by doing your best…
Neither do you honor your leader by doing what seems right to you….
HMMM
To appreciate and honour your leader is a demonstration of the character of the Spirit. And it’s essential for the edification and growth of the Church, even for the expansion of the Kingdom.
POWERFUL
Wowwww!!!
Soooo muchhhh to learn in this timely episode!!!!
THANK YOU LORD JESUS FOR MACHAIRA WITH APOSTLE BENNIEEEEE ❤️
It is impossible for a true believer and ardent follower of Christ to idolize his or her leader.
A leader whose true intent is to serve God’s purpose will not seek idolization.
From the past episodes, I learnt that honour to our leaders is honour to God…
Therefore showing honor to our leaders is part of our obedience to God, our edification and spiritual growth!
The Bible teaches me to “esteem my leader very highly…
This is not just a repetition of the concept of honor.
Rather, it is to place emphasis on the matter and to show the extent to which I must esteem my leader!
“VERY” means ABOVE MORE THAN or going beyond anything SUPERIOR TO MORE THAN!
WOW!!!
If the Word of God says I must esteem my leader VERY highly….
Then I will definitely go ABOVE MORE THAN the norm…
Yes Sir
I will be intentional about esteeming my leaders highly.
We are intentional
“HIGHLY” means SUPERABUNDANT in quantity or SUPERIOR in quality
I HONOUR AND ESTEEM MY LEADER VERY HIGHLY!!!
I don’t honor my leader because of…
a. his or her age
b. his or her financial status or intellectual capacity
c. his or her age
I honor my leaders because of the work and sacrifice they make for me.
Thank You Jesus!
Woaw, this is too much, oh my God. I choose to honour my leaders even above the limit of the world view
we follow the word
A leader whose business is the welfare of your spirit and soul must be vehemently and superabundantly esteemed, and hyped beyond the degree the people of the world have set.
Heyyyyy I HYPE AND OVER HYPE MY LEADERRRRR!!!!!!
THE WORLD HAS NOT SEEN ANYTHING YETTTTT!!!!
Thank you Apostle for this revelation. Once a man of God asked me that is my pastor Jesus before I always post him with statements like THANK YOU SIR FOR SHOWING ME THE WAY, and I was about giving in to his receptive words, but today’s episode is a deliverance unto my mind.
People can hail their best footballers , how much more my leaders, I honour, I honour my Leaders.
Gloreyyyyyyyyy
I refuse to be shy when it comes to hyping and esteeming my leader!!!
The people of the world will so learn Christ by learning how to esteem our God given Leaders
THANK YOU LORD JESUS FOR MY LEADER APOSTLE BENNIE 🔥
I esteem my leader above the standard of this world.
I highly esteem my leaders in love.
Hallelujah
Glory to God.
Having understood why I ought to honour my leaders. This episode shows me how. It is beautiful how the machaira takes a systematic step in building my soul on God’s word.
I have learnt that I have to honour my leaders because their lives are instruments of service to help develop my soul on God’s will. And in such commitments, its so costly for them.
This is why Apostle said we should honour those who labour among us and are over us…he said they are shepherds of our souls and give accounts to God daily for us. So in God’s justful mindset they deserve to be honored. In a world where social media is prevalent and mockery for the doctrine of Jesus is on rampage. People will always have issues when we honour our leaders. The world has taught the church that when we hype or esteem our leaders highly then we have idolized them in place of God and the leaders have made us His slaves.
A genuine leader will not make slaves of the flock God has given Him, and members that know Jesus will not idolize their leaders.
One way to do so is to highly esteem our leaders in love. despite how the English waters down the depths Apostle Paul wants to communicate. The proper expression that scratches a bit of depth is “to vehemently and superabundantly esteemed and hyped beyond the degree the people of the world have set.”
Thank you Lord Jesus
Honoring leaders has nothing to do with doing what seems right to you nor your best.
Thank you Lord Jesus!
I maintain an open heart

I am bot shy to hype my leader
Thank you lord Jesus
Ooh yes ,I set my heart right to practically honour my leaders today.
It is not wrong to flamboyantly show forth your leaders. The Bible, in fact, shows forth the intensity to which this should be done.
Whilst reading the anchor verse, i noticed something striking, “…..to esteem them very highly IN LOVE”. This “in love” removes the idea of its being done religiously. Your reverence must be done in love. This means, I must wholeheartedly go beyond the norm of duty and demonstrate my passionate AFFECTION for my leaders. This is awesome.
Projecting my leader/leaders set over me is not idolization but adoration for their work’s sake. I Do the Needful!!
Thank you Lord Jesus.
I don’t dishonor the authorities God has set over me.
I’ll be so intentional about honoring my leader till it becomes a part of me
Oh thank you lord Jesus
