GUARD YOUR WORDS AS A SKILFUL POET

“Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for edification according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear.”

Ephesians 4:29 (New American Standard Bible)

God framed the universe with words. Exactly what He spoke was what came into being. When God looked at all that He has created, He said it was good (See the whole chapter of Genesis 1)

Take a look at this as well:  “Faith empowers us to see that the universe was created and beautifully coordinated by the power of God’s words! He spoke and the invisible realm gave birth to all that is seen.” Hebrews 11:3 (TPT)

These verses establish a secret concept and principle of the manifestation of things. The present world you see is a product of thoughts and words. Therefore, you must understand that the words you speak take form in your life and in the lives of others.

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Proverbs 18:21 (NLT)
Spirit beings or entities act on words which are spoken.
This is why you must be intentional about your words.

Paul was emphatic with his apostolic instruction to the saints in Ephesus:

“Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].”

One way you can exercise the intentionality in speaking the right words of blessings, is to guard and guide your words. You guard your words also by guarding and guiding your tongue. Don’t just let your tongue loose, put it in submission to the right thoughts.

“If anyone thinks himself to be religious [scrupulously observant of the rituals of his faith], and does not control his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless (futile, barren).” James 1:26 (Amplified Bible).

Most people got into trouble because of the words they spoke. The tongue directs the course of your life. And you have to guard and guide it to articulate life.

What comes out of your mouth is what defines and defiles you (Matthew 15:11).

Choose your words carefully with wisdom as a dexterous master poet.

As the Psalmist said, “To the Chief Musician; set to the [tune of] “Lilies.” A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A skillful song, or a didactic or reflective poem. A Song of Love. My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my psalm to the King. My tongue is like the pen of a skillful writer.” Psalm 45:1 (Amplified Bible)

Your words must paint a beautiful picture of blessings and grace to those who hear you. The unnecessary joke, that unintentional comment, the rebuke hewn out of wrath, and the unloving criticism, has the potential to lead someone to commit suicide, to destroy ones confidence, it can crush the heart of a great vision and dry enthusiasm.

Poets don’t just make utterances. Their words are reflections of their deep thoughts. The speak to paint the right pictures they want their hearers to see and to feel. You are not an ordinary poet. You are a poet soaked with the spirit-ink. Your life is a poem (Ephesians 2:10) written by the Lord Himself. Bring your sphere into the satisfaction of this reality of the Lord in you. Don’t just speak!

Let your words uplift destinies and stir fresh passion and hope.

Be a builder through your words. Don’t only specialize in speaking right words to yourself, train your lips to speak glorious words to your hearers.

The Spirit of the Lord is not upon you to curse a generation or destroy lives. The Spirit of the Lord is upon you to influence your heart and tongue to dispense blessings.

The Spirit of the Lord is on you to preach good news to the poor; to proclaim liberty to the captives (which cause recovery of sight to the blind, release the oppress) and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor!

Oh glory to God.

Beloved guard and guide your words!

Selah!
