HEARING GOD’S VOICE 23 –

PERCEIVING GOD’S VOICE 4

“I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly”

Psalm 85:8 (NKJV)

Through our daily communion with God (in prayer and meditation of His Word), we develop the mastery to know or perceive the voice of the Lord.

Though the ability to perceive or distinguish the voice of the Lord from the other voices is built through consistent communion or fellowship with God, there are some pointers that will help you grow in the certainty of the Lord’s voice.

In the previous episode, I mentioned two of these pointers.

– The voice of the Lord is precise and peaceful.

– The voice of the Lord is powerfully active and penetrates the heart.

Now you must also know that:

– The voice of the Lord is steadily consistent with the scriptures.

This cannot be overemphasized, and I have mentioned it a couple of times in this series.

No revelation trumps the authority, relevance, and authenticity of the scriptures.

– Though the voice of the Lord convicts hearts, it doesn’t produce terror, fear and condemnation. It is the adversary who uses fear as a weapon.

“But the fact of the matter is that it is best for you that I go away, for if I don’t, the Comforter won’t come. If I do, he will—for I will send him to you. “And when he has come he will convince the world of its sin, and of the availability of God’s goodness, and of deliverance from judgment.“ John 16:7-8 (TLB)

 The Holy Spirit is God’s voice in your heart and the word of God is the texture of the Voice.

– The voice of the Lord is not passive but action-oriented.

“I advise you to obey only the Holy Spirit’s instructions. He will tell you where to go and what to do, and then you won’t always be doing the wrong things your evil nature wants you to.” Galatians 5:16 (TLB).

Whenever the Holy Spirit speaks, He supplies direction. The voice of the Lord doesn’t guess. It is precise and shows you what to do. It doesn’t leave you with an option to do wrong. It is emphatic on the right thing. The adversary will not discourage you from going to visit the wrong website. The voice of the Lord is what prompts you to run from sexual sins.

Your role is to obey the Lord’s voice.

It is the voice of the Lord that prompts you from staying away from a fight or quarrel.

The voice of the Lord directs you in the way to go. It commands you to take the right action.

“and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 (Holman Christian Standard Bible).

Beloved, as men could depend on the global positioning system (GPS) for direction and the route to take, God has introduced us to a rich intimate relationship with Him through Christ.

As you hear the voice of the Lord, harden not your heart.
