    NOW COMFORT AND EDIFY ONE ANOTHER WITH THIS 1

    “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” 

    1 Thessalonians 5:11 (KJV)

    The Church, from her inception, has suffered hostility, threats, political persecution, philosophical persecution, and both mental and physical torture.

    All these are attempts to crush and destroy the mission of the Church.

    Take note:
    The Church is the aggregation of all the saints in Christ.
    Therefore, don’t think of the Church as an institution separated from you. You are part of the very constitution of the Church. The Church is the body of Christ, the herald of God’s eternal purpose. The city is set on the hill, giving hope to a hopeless world. The Church is the torch of God in a world overwhelmed by gross darkness. It is the divine salt pack that preserves and gives taste to the earth.

    This is why the adversary has always seen the Church as a threat.
    There have been attempts to destroy the Church through heretical and deceptive doctrines.

    Matters that are to bring hope to the Church were diluted with error. And it’s with the intention to corrupt the hope of the saints and produce fear in their hearts.

    Over the centuries, the news of Jesus’s coming has been seen as news of doom for all mankind. 

    However, the coming of Jesus is a day of hope, joy, and the full manifestation of glory for those in Christ.

    If you have followed these episodes on 1 Thessalonians 5, you should be established in this certainty: the believer is not appointed for wrath but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus, who died for us.

    Paul the apostle addressed the matter of the coming of our Lord Jesus to comfort the hearts of the saints.

    No matter how the people of the world will mock, persecute,  or attack the Church, we must be comforted with the reality that our Lord cometh.

    Take a look at verse 11 of 1 Thessalonians 5, again:

    “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”

    The sentence begins with “Wherefore”, the Greek word is “dio”, which simply means, “therefore”, or for which cause or consequently.

    The word “dio” or “Wherefore” as used in the verse is a logical connector. It introduces an explanation that emphasizes the logical outcome or necessity of an action or belief.

    Paul the apostle used “wherefore” in the verse to draw an inference from what he had previously stated.

    This explains that as believers we are to comfort and edify one another on the grounds of this truth that:
    – God has not appointed us to wrath.
    – He has appointed us to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus, who died for us.
    – And that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with the Lord Jesus.

     No believer is to threaten another believer with the coming of Jesus. 

    Instead, we are instructed through the epistles to comfort one another with the news of the coming of Jesus.

    WE PRAY
    We pray that our hearts will not be troubled, but we shall be comforted in this reality that the coming of our Lord Jesus shall be the climax revelation that we are together with Him.

    THE CITADEL OF DIVINE REALITY 

    “but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” 

    1 Timothy 3:15 (NKJV)

    You are likely to get more confused in this present pluralistic world. This is a world where everyone seems to have an opportunity to create their own contents. 

    Even people who are living astray or struggling to get their lives together are pretending to be online coaches. 

    In a world where we have people embittered by the wounds of broken homes, deceived by atheism, disdained by the society, blinded by the fables of traditions and religion; you will definitely be confronted by contradictory opinions. 

    You may meet people with weird thoughts about how one has to live and relate with God.

    The world clearly without God is confused!!!

    God is not the author of confusion. (1 Corinthians 14:33) Confusion is not normal. Truth is not subjective. Truth is not determined by how one feels or thinks. 

    People make their opinions and define their living by how they feel or think within a particular period. Feelings change and experiences differ.

    Truth is absolute!

    Truth is changeless!

    The systems and structures of this world are not built on Truth. They are mainly built on individual interests or greed. You can only find truth in God’s Kingdom. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” (John 14:6). 

    All the systems or structures of this world shall crumble (Psalm 46:6). They don’t carry eternal value. Therefore, don’t be conformed to this world though you are in the world (Romans 12:2; John 17:16). 

    The most secured place is the Kingdom of God. And through Christ we are translated into this unshakable kingdom (Colossians 1:13; Hebrews 11:28). 

    Jesus established His Church to be the organic expression of God’s Kingdom. The best place to consistently access Truth is Christ’s Church. Let not the world distract you.

    The Church is the only Pillar and ground of the Truth. It is the haven and bastion of divine reality. Through the Church, you are nurtured, equipped and deeply rooted in truth.

    “Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth.” Ephesians 4:14 (TLB).

    The people of the world who see the Church as a threat would definitely have a different opinion about this. Nevertheless, the essence and the impact of the Church in the world cannot be denied. From the revelation of the scriptures, there is the affirmation of this truth of the Church and its purpose in this world. 

    The Church is the herald of the glorious news of the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus. Apart from the Church, there is no other community of people anywhere in this world which presents and represents God’s Kingdom.

    You might have experienced some people within the Church who act contrary to the reality of the Kingdom of our Lord. But that doesn’t deny what the Church is – THE PILLAR OF TRUTH! 

    Selfish men will always look for ways to creep into places and then attempt to make waste of gullible people. However, the light of the truth cannot be comprehended by any dimension of darkness. 

    Don’t allow your experiences of some people within the Church to corrupt your love for the Lord, and then move you away from the community of the Church. Don’t allow your heart to be steered away from the glorious essence of the Church.

    The fullness of Christ is revealed through His Body which is the Church.

    The Church remains the only Bastion of Truth in this world; therefore, let nothing move you away from the Church! 

    Be unwavering involved or part of what God is doing in His Church.

    IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?

    “And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” 

    1 Samuel 17:29 (NKJV)

    We are in times where the forces and entities of darkness are strategically advancing their cause in every place. They know the appearing of the Lord is near and their time of destruction is at hand as the world is coming to an end.

    All things are consummating.

    God is wrapping up His eternal plan. Therefore, the devil is moving faster ahead of his time to sway off many believers and to destroy more destinies.

    The devil knows he can’t win and he has no chance, however, he knows he can deceive many into error and self-destruction. He is strategically opposing the truth of God’s word, by casting shadows upon the understanding of the saints. 

    The devil is focused on places the saints are not taking urgent steps to invade. He is expanding the territories or the habitation of darkness.  

    These are the gates of hades in the schools, offices, digital space (which includes social media) and society as a whole. They are advancing their cause.

    And the Church must not fall back with fear as the army of Israel did at the sight of Goliath.

    Unfortunately, many in the Church think like Eliab. They have no sense of urgency yet have occupied great positions in the Church.

    They keep despising the efforts of the saints. And don’t see the need for other saints to be busy with the gospel.

    If you are reading this now, then God is talking to you. Yes, You!

    Don’t live like there is no cause!

    Don’t spend your time, your thoughts, money, attention, and energy on the things of men like there is no cause.

    Jesus said to Peter, “You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man” [ Matthew 16:23 (ESV)

    Beloved, be committed to the great course of Christ. Don’t be a hindrance or the reason big things cannot be done.

    Don’t yield to the voices of “Eliab”.

    Whoever thinks you are taking Church too seriously, or you are going out for soul-winning too much or giving into Kingdom assignments is not necessary, doesn’t understand the urgency of the times.

    What are you making money for?

    Is it not to spread the gospel?

    You will not be told you are too young to get a gadget for yourself or spend on comedy shows or attend a movie premiere or even host a birthday party.

    But you will be questioned for giving into a gospel project because you are a student or young.

    Sometimes people will wonder why we organize outreaches, host camp meetings, invest in discipleship and go to unreached places to proclaim Jesus. They think we are being too fanatic about Jesus.

    Some think it’s a mere youthful exuberance.

    Others think we simply have nothing to do with time.

    But No! It is none of these things.

    We do what we do and take the steps we take because there is a cause.
    The impact of the Church through history cannot be overemphasized. Many have found total salvation, true transformation and hope through the preaching of the gospel. And those who laboured through the gospel risked their lives to get the light of the gospel into dark places.

    “But I consider my life of no value to me, if only I may finish my course and complete the ministry I have received from the Lord Jesus–the ministry of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” (Acts 20:24)

    It is now your time to go all out for Jesus!

    It is your time to finish the course of Christ.

    Israel would have been defeated and plundered if David had not taken a stand against Goliath. Perhaps the coming of the Messiah would have been corrupted. Since he had to come through the Jews.

    Get involved in what God is doing, for there is a cause!

    Be part of the salvation of souls. Contribute to the expansion of the Church!

    Start by taking part in the mission of the Lord in your local Church.

    If there are no Christ-centered missions in your local Church, find a place where you can be inspired to do more for the Lord.

    SHOW UP WITH JESUS…

    AND STAND UP WITH YOUR PASTOR 2

    “Master,” said David, “don’t give up hope. I’m ready to go and fight this Philistine.”

    1 Samuel 17:32 (The Message)

    Whatever God wants to do in time, He does it through a people He has called out and sent.

    Though Jesus is the head of the Church, He has also raised leaders, or shepherds to the Churches for the administration of His word and His purpose.

    The will and counsel of God are established in this world through His Church. And by His eternal counsel and wisdom, He has set leaders or shepherds (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers), to equip, instruct and guide the saints to work and achieve God’s goal.

    The adversary attacks leaders of the various churches or ministries to disturb the work of God. He also uses cunning means to distract the focus and interest of the believers. He drifts them away from the Lord’s assignment to their personal ambitions.

    Some have conformed their minds to the ideas, cultures and systems of this world. Others have gradually lost their confidence and zeal in the Lord.

    They find it difficult to show up for Jesus and stand with their leaders in the work of the ministry. They make excuses whenever they have to take up responsibility in the Church.

    They are gradually drawing back from getting involved in the war for souls.

    The bold step David took to confront Goliath is an example of faith for every believer in Christ.

    Many are within the Church but will hardly take a stand for the Church amid opposition.

    In this post-modern era of social media, there is the abuse of freedom of speech and most people have cheaply become influencers. And they use their platforms to bastardize the glorious Church of Jesus.

    Everyone is throwing a jab at the Church and making the Church the focus of their attacks. Even believers who are in the Church, have subtly turned against the Church.

    Many have also become lovers of themselves, lovers of money, scoffers of God and pursue their own interests, as Paul mentioned in his letter to Timothy.

    “For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.” 2 Timothy 3:2 (NLT).

    People who love themselves cannot stand with God or show up with Jesus. They are not available for the Kingdom assignment.

    Only a few believers are ready to go all out for Jesus.

    They become frightened and feel hopeless at the slightest confrontation.

    They are like Saul’s army:

    “The Israelites, to a man, fell back the moment they saw the giant—totally frightened…” 1 Samuel 17:24 (Message)

    Are you part of those who fall back and are frightened by the opposition of this world?

    Or you are part of those who show up with Jesus in all places?

    Are you an encouragement to your Pastor?

    Can your Church leader set gospel outreach goals with you standing with him or her?

    Are you controlled by the systems of this world or you are shining forth the light of the gospel?

    Among the army of Israel were the senior brothers of David, who were trained for war; yet, they hid themselves in the camp or within the lines on the battlefield. They were not able to step forward or take a stand for the Lord.

    Are you hiding among the crowds like the other brothers of David?
    Or you are ready to stand out like David?

    Can your Pastor or Leader share this testimony about you:

    “There is no one like Timothy. What sets him apart from others is his deep concern for you and your spiritual journey. This is rare, my friends, for most people only care about themselves, not about what is dear to the heart of Jesus the Anointed. You know Timothy is genuine in the Lord’s ways. He has been a faithful partner to me as we express the good news, as much as my own flesh and blood would have been.” Philippians 2:20-22 (Voice)

    Are you labouring with your leader in the gospel like Timothy did with Paul?

    This is the time to SHOW UP WITH JESUS and STAND WITH YOUR PASTOR, for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

    We pray that we shall increase in grace, wisdom, strength and zeal to stand and labour with our leaders in the spread of the gospel of Jesus in all places.

    – I increase in grace, wisdom, strength an zeal to stand and labour with my leaders in the spread of the gospel of Jesus in all places.

    – I show up everywhere with the confidence of God.

    – Through me, many are turning from darkness to light.

    – I am a burden bearer.
     
    – I am a son of consolation.
     
    – I am an encouragement to my Pastor and leaders.

    – I am a helper of the war.

    Oh thank you Lord Jesus for enabling me.
