GUARD YOUR WORDS AS A SKILFUL POET

“Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for edification according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear.”

Ephesians 4:29 (New American Standard Bible)

God framed the universe with words. Exactly what He spoke was what came into being. When God looked at all that He has created, He said it was good (See the whole chapter of Genesis 1)

Take a look at this as well:  “Faith empowers us to see that the universe was created and beautifully coordinated by the power of God’s words! He spoke and the invisible realm gave birth to all that is seen.” Hebrews 11:3 (TPT)

These verses establish a secret concept and principle of the manifestation of things. The present world you see is a product of thoughts and words. Therefore, you must understand that the words you speak take form in your life and in the lives of others.

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Proverbs 18:21 (NLT)
Spirit beings or entities act on words which are spoken.
This is why you must be intentional about your words.

Paul was emphatic with his apostolic instruction to the saints in Ephesus:

“Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].”

One way you can exercise the intentionality in speaking the right words of blessings, is to guard and guide your words. You guard your words also by guarding and guiding your tongue. Don’t just let your tongue loose, put it in submission to the right thoughts.

“If anyone thinks himself to be religious [scrupulously observant of the rituals of his faith], and does not control his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless (futile, barren).” James 1:26 (Amplified Bible).

Most people got into trouble because of the words they spoke. The tongue directs the course of your life. And you have to guard and guide it to articulate life.

What comes out of your mouth is what defines and defiles you (Matthew 15:11).

Choose your words carefully with wisdom as a dexterous master poet.

As the Psalmist said, “To the Chief Musician; set to the [tune of] “Lilies.” A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A skillful song, or a didactic or reflective poem. A Song of Love. My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my psalm to the King. My tongue is like the pen of a skillful writer.” Psalm 45:1 (Amplified Bible)

Your words must paint a beautiful picture of blessings and grace to those who hear you. The unnecessary joke, that unintentional comment, the rebuke hewn out of wrath, and the unloving criticism, has the potential to lead someone to commit suicide, to destroy ones confidence, it can crush the heart of a great vision and dry enthusiasm.

Poets don’t just make utterances. Their words are reflections of their deep thoughts. The speak to paint the right pictures they want their hearers to see and to feel. You are not an ordinary poet. You are a poet soaked with the spirit-ink. Your life is a poem (Ephesians 2:10) written by the Lord Himself. Bring your sphere into the satisfaction of this reality of the Lord in you. Don’t just speak!

Let your words uplift destinies and stir fresh passion and hope.

Be a builder through your words. Don’t only specialize in speaking right words to yourself, train your lips to speak glorious words to your hearers.

The Spirit of the Lord is not upon you to curse a generation or destroy lives. The Spirit of the Lord is upon you to influence your heart and tongue to dispense blessings.

The Spirit of the Lord is on you to preach good news to the poor; to proclaim liberty to the captives (which cause recovery of sight to the blind, release the oppress) and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor!

    Oh glory to God.

Beloved guard and guide your words!

    SPEAK BLESSINGS

“The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.”

    Proverbs 10:11 (NLT)

The mindset of a new creation is shaped by the word of God. The new creation cannot live above the reality of the word. Whatever we do in speech and deeds must be consistent with the reality of the word of God.

You dispense life through the word of God on your tongue.

The speaking or utterance of the word of God is blessing to the hearers.

As a child of God every word you speak must bless lives.

“Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].”

Any word which doesn’t bless your hearers is unwholesome and worthless.

You don’t speak your emotions, or feelings, or assumptions or speak out of wrath. Speak life and blessings. No matter the situation, communicate with the intention to build up. Whether you are correcting, reacting, responding or explaining a thought, it should be done with grace.

You shouldn’t be known as one who speaks blessing and curses.

“We use our tongue to praise God our Father and then turn around and curse a person who was made in his very image! Out of the same mouth we pour out words of praise one minute and curses the next. My brothers and sister, this should never be!” James 3:9-10 (TPT)

Guard and guide your tongue to communicate the excellence of God. Don’t speak curses and violence. Let not poisonous words gush forth from your lips.

From the opening verse, you can see that it is the mouth of the wicked which conceals violence intentions. There is no life and hope on the tongue of the wicked. But for the righteous, his words are a source of blessing and their mouth are the fountain of life.

It means when anyone should listen to you they shall enjoy unending flow of wisdom and life.

Make a decision today that you are going to be intentional about speaking blessings. Don’t just speak words, speak wisdom.

Let your hearers rejoice at your words.

As they said concerning Jesus, “where did this man get this wisdom?…”, people around you should say such about you.

No matter how complex a situation is, know that the wisdom of God is at work in you. And your words will produce blessing and life in your hearers.

If they don’t produce blessings, don’t speak!

    DISPENSE LIFE THROUGH YOUR WORDS

“The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.”

    Proverbs 10:11 (NLT)

The life which is in Christ is in you. Therefore as He is a Life-giving Spirit, even so are you a life-giving spirit.

You have the capacity to dispense life unto others just as Jesus did.

How did Jesus dispense life unto others?

Jesus dispensed His life through the communication of the Word.

His words were not mere utterances of vocabulary. His words were not mere sounds of aggregated alphabets.

His words were soaked and saturated with the Spirit and Life.

They were actually the embodiment of His Life and His Spirit.

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63 (NKJV)

You cannot have fellowship with His life without the communication of His word.

As He spoke words His disciples encountered life. At point when He asked His disciples if they will also leave as others left, Peter replied saying, “… Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68)

You became born again through the work of the Spirit and the communication of the word of God. The born again is begotten by the Word of God.

“For through the eternal and living Word of God you have been born again. And this “seed” that he planted within you can never be destroyed but will live and grow inside of you forever.” 1Peter 1:23 (TPT)

The word of God is your  substance and essence. And the more you fellowship with the scriptures, the more the reality of the word comes alive in your heart. And it becomes life on your tongue.

The word in you, conditions your mind with wisdom. Every word you speak blesses lives.

As you can see in the opening verse:

“The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life and his words of wisdom are a source of blessing, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence and evil.” Proverbs 10:11 (Amplified Bible)

Don’t just speak words, speak wisdom. Live as a life-giver. Don’t speak death or defeat.

As you speak forth God’s word, you are speaking forth the substance of the Spirit and Life unto men.

You are a life-giver, therefore walk in this truth!

    YOU ARE A LIFE DISPENSER

“The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit”

    1 Corinthians 15:45 (NLT)

As I wrote in the previous episode, “The Best Comes Out of You”,  I explained that the born again has the divine life as his or her life. And he is also a partaker of God’s nature.

God dwells in you through the Spirit. The Holy Spirit in you also means you have the capacity to express God, just as Jesus did.

The expression of God is the reality of the believer as one brought into sonship.

To express God is to demonstrate and dispense His life.

Jesus said, “…I am come that you have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10).

Jesus didn’t come to dispense death nor darkness because He is LIFE. And His Life is the light of men.

He said to Martha, “I am the resurrection, and the Life”

Anything that comes out of Jesus is LIFE.

He is not as the first Adam who is a living soul. Paul the Apostle refers to him as the Life-giving Spirit.

“The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit” 1 Corinthians 15:45 (NLT)

And the beautiful thing is this, as the Lord is so are you.

As He is Light, so has He made us Light (John 8:12; Matthew 5:14).

As He is righteous, even so has He made us the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). As He is a King, He has made us kings and priests (Revelation 1:6).

Therefore as He is a Life-giving Spirit, He has also made us life-giving spirits.

As a born again, you don’t only have the life of God, you have the capacity of God to shine forth His light and show forth His glory!

You have the capacity and the mandate to bring many into the participation of His life.

As one whose spirit is mingled with the life-giving Spirit, you have the ability to dispense the life of God in every place.

Which means darkness and anything of death cannot prevail in your sphere.

Go forth this day as a distributor of the Life of God.

THE BEST COMES OUT OF YOU

“Believe in me so that rivers of living water will burst out from within you, flowing from your innermost being, just like the Scripture says!”

    John 7:38 (TPT)

To be born again is to receive the divine life and to be a partaker of God’s nature.

At the New birth, God indwell you through the Spirit. To have God in you means you are enriched with glory.

This then means that anyone in Christ must not assume they are empty or void of glory.

Some people in Christ don’t walk in the consciousness of what Christ has produced in them. They judge and measure the value of their lives by their outward circumstances.

They judge themselves by some characteristics they used to exude before they got born again.

For example, one will claim that “She has temper issues and lacks patience.”

But how can you lack patience when the endless love of God has cascaded into your hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in you!

To have the Holy Spirit in you is to have the capacity to express God.

To have the Holy Spirit in you means you cannot be void and worthless.
In Genesis 1:2, it was clear that the earth was without form and was void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. However, the moment there was the presence of the Spirit of God upon the face of the waters. The word of God brought forth light amidst this dark situation.

It doesn’t matter how badly your character has been; when you have the Holy Spirit in you, His character saturates your being and gives you the capacity to express His quality.

From the opening verse, we see Jesus making a profound statement:

He said, When you believe in Him, rivers of living water will burst out from within you. This speaks of the Holy Spirit in you. Flowing from your innermost being is the refreshing substance of the Spirit.

Wastage doesn’t come out of you. Dead things don’t come out of you.

The only thing which comes out of you is that which is full of life and living.

Live and walk daily in the consciousness of the quality of the Holy Spirit in you.

No matter how bad or worse you have been in the past, the Holy Spirit in you causes you to express the best of God.

    This is your reality.

Until you focus on the Lord as your inward satisfaction, you will be easily distracted when confronted by challenges.
    Apostle Bennie

    EXPECT OPPOSITIONS

“For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries”

    1 Corinthians 16:9 (KJV)

Beloved, you should not be surprised when you are confronted by challenges because of the gospel.

Men whose eyes have been blinded by the adversary will always oppose God’s Kingdom plan.

The more you see darkness in a place, the greater the need to spread the gospel wherever you go or move to, and identify opportunities to share the gospel.
This was something Jesus and the early saints frequently utilised. And even in our day, those who are doing well with the gospel have sharpened their skills to identify doors of opportunity, to spread the gospel.

    Look at this:
“And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few” Matthew 9:35-37 (KJV)

Do you see it? The moment our Lord Jesus saw the multitudes, He saw the opportunity or the need to get souls saved.

When you see people, you must identify the need and the opportunity to spread the gospel. Wherever you go or find yourself, there are opportunities to get many saved.

Don’t be threatened by an impending opposition when you identify a door of opportunity.
Be determined to make the most of such opportunities, as the Holy Spirit inspires you.
You will see from the opening verse that Paul did not fret; he was ready to stay in order to utilise the great door which was opened unto him.

“Regardless, I will remain in Ephesus until the feast of Pentecost. There’s an amazing door of opportunity standing wide open for me to minister here, even though there are many who oppose and stand against me.” 1 Corinthians 16:8-9 (TPT).

He decided to stay for more days in Ephesus, to minister there, even though there were many who opposed and stood against him.
We will later find out that the gospel grew so much in the city of Ephesus and prevailed. (See Acts 19:1-20)

    Always have this in mind:

DARKNESS CANNOT PUT OUT THE BLAZING LIFE-LIGHT! (John 1:5, Message Bible).

Light doesn’t automatically shine in dark places; you must intentionally cause it to shine.

Jesus said, “Let your light so shine” (Matthew 5:16).

The purpose of light is to shine in the darkness. Greater lights are needed to shine in the darkest places.

The dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty; thus, we must invade and saturate such places with the blazing life-light.

We don’t crawl backwards just because of the violence of darkness. The life-light is the love-light, and it is the greatest force of victory.

Beloved, take advantage of every opportunity to spread the gospel without fear of opposition, for the Lord is with you.
