ARE YOU SHARING IN GOD’S DESIRE?

“Jesus called out to them and said, “Come and follow me, and I will transform you into men who catch people for God.”

    Matthew 4:19 (TPT)

When our Lord Jesus called His disciples, He was specific, direct, clear and blunt on what He was going to turn them into.

He was not going to produce “marketplace apostles”. He would not make them lawyers, accountants, successful medical doctors, politicians, Phd holders, international economists, CEOs of multinational empires, engineers, programmers, etc.

Jesus was going to make them new kinds of fishermen. He was going to turn them into men who catch people for God.

Jesus did not call His disciples to improve their fishing business, essentially. He called them with the primary intention of transforming them into men who catch people for God.

This doesn’t mean our Lord devalues our individual careers or professions. Neither does it mean that He doesn’t bless our work. The Lord is interested in our career success because He loves us. He instructs us to work and not be lazy through His word.

However, some believers have redefined the primary assignment of the believer. These people become disciples of Jesus, often with the perception that the Lord will help them succeed in their careers or professional ambitions.

Did Jesus not help Peter catch more fish?

The Lord did help Peter and his friends (Luke 5:4-11), and He continues to help those who believe in Him and respond to the instructions of the Spirit to succeed at what they do.

Irrespective of your career or occupation, your primary assignment as a disciple of Jesus is to make more disciples.

Jesus said, “…I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit…” John 15:16 (NLT)

This is the primary purpose of being a disciple of Jesus; to be like Christ and to become a fisher of men.

As a disciple of Jesus, you are brought into His fellowship and followership, so that through you God will bring many more men into His fellowship and followership.

“Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All the authority of the universe has been given to me. Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (TPT)

No matter what you do, you must find yourself catching men for God. That is God’s desire.

He desires that all men shall be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

Be the medium by which the Lord’s desire will be fulfilled.

    KINGDOM REPUTATION

“You already know about his excellent reputation, since he has served alongside me as a loyal son in the work of ministry”

    Philippians 2:22 (TPT)

No matter how you operate (whether in secret or openly), the impact of your actions cannot be hidden.

Consistent impact is tangible and visible.

To make an impact is to have a marked effect or influence on someone or a people. The consistency of your impact forms part of the body of your reputation.

Wherever you find yourself, people will remember you according to your reputation.

There are people who have a great reputation in their workplaces or schools, but have no great reputation in the Kingdom.

What are you known for in the Kingdom?

Will you call it an excellent reputation?

    Is it worth celebrating?
    Does your reputation inspire faith?

Does your reputation reflect the things which interest the Lord?

As a Kingdom person, your reputation must be that you serve the purpose of the Lord.

You cannot be serving your interests and expect to be applauded by the Lord.

Some claim they do God’s work, but not in the open. The work of the Lord cannot be hidden. Like I said from the beginning, no matter how you operate, your great impact cannot be hidden.

Thus, if you are truly making an impact, your reputation will be known by the Lord and by the saints.

You are a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14).

It is prideful to think that the saints are not to determine whether you have an excellent reputation or not. You cannot make an excuse that you are making an impact, and it is only the Lord that knows.

In case you didn’t read the opening verse well, read again:

You already know about his excellent reputation, since he has served alongside me as a loyal son in the work of ministry”

They knew the reputation of Timothy because his service to the Lord and impact were tangible.

You cannot serve the Lord directly without serving in partnership with the saints. You cannot serve the Lord outside His Church. You serve the Lord through His Church (precisely, the ministry in which He has planted you).

Timothy had the opportunity to serve the Lord and to achieve an excellent reputation through the ministry of Paul the apostle. His reputation was built over time as he followed instructions and served diligently.

Your genuine and excellent reputation in your local Church is recognised as a reputation in the Kingdom.

How are you handling responsibilities entrusted to you?

Do you execute the assignment of the Kingdom given to you with excellence?

How is your reputation advancing the Kingdom?

Do you have a reputation for sitting on the fence?
Do you have a reputation for not being available or consistent?

What is the testimony of your Pastor or Leader about you?

Your Kingdom reputation is according to the big things you dare to do for the Lord through your local Church.

And that is a determinant of your heavenly crowns and rewards.

Unforgiveness or holding on to an offence is a destructive weapon of the enemy. You may think you are doing the right thing by giving a forensic look at the situation. But beloved listen, that is a snare of the adversary. Make it your priority to walk in love as Jesus loved all men.

    STAND IN THE GAP

“The people then cried out to Moses; and Moses prayed to the LORD…”

Numbers 11:2 (New American Standard Bible)

As the light of the world, the Lord has called you and sent you to give direction and meaning to lives.

As a New Creation in Christ, you have the mandate to lead your generation. You are called and chosen by God to lead many into purpose.

The first step in fulfilling the assignment of leadership is to entrust the assignment to God.

The core element of every leader’s assignment is people. Every leader is sent out by God to provide answers to the people, irrespective of their condition or needs.

However, kingdom leaders are sent men, and are not to be GOD to the people. Leaders must therefore see themselves as intercessors.

You shape the destinies of people by first praying to the One who has FOREORDAINED THEIR DESTINIES.

Whenever the people of Israel turned away from God or blamed Moses for their condition (instead of taking responsibility for their fears and anxiety), Moses’ reaction was to intercede for the people.
Moses didn’t lead the people of Israel by his own strength. He led Israel through the power of Intercession.

To intercede is to commit the burdens of your community, or the institution of people you are leading, to God.

The adversary sought to destroy lives and destinies, and your strategy is to go into prayer of intercession and also take up intercessory projects which shall help shape the lives entrusted to you.
    Jesus said:

“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren” Luke 22:31-32 (KJV).

As a leader, instead of complaining, you stand in the gap for the people entrusted to you by the Lord.

To lead your generation is not to lord yourself over them, but to serve. And the first step you have to take in the service of others is to intercede for them.

    BE AN INTERCESSOR TODAY.

    – I serve my generation first through intercession.

    – I don’t lead by my own strength, I lead by the strength of the Lord.

    – Through my intercession for the people the Lord has entrusted to me, their lives are directed and shaped unto purpose.

    WHERE IS YOUR STRENGTH?

“For I am Yahweh your God, who strongly takes hold of your right hand, Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.”

    Isaiah 41:13 (Legacy Standard Bible)

One of the greatest signs of maturity is dependence on God.

In the society we find ourselves today, most people see dependence as weakness and others also see it as immaturity.

But that is not the situation in God.

The more you grow in your relationship with God or as you mature in Him, the more you realise you have to depend on Him.
The immatured ones don’t depend on God.

Dependence on God is not a sign of weakness. Dependence on God is a quality of wisdom and humility.

It takes a lot of pride to think you don’t need God.

    Such people don’t pray.

They do everything with their own strength and understanding.

The wise in Christ trust in God’s strength. They don’t try to use their own strength. They depend and utilize the strength of God’s resources.

Just think about it, trying to use your limited resources to accomplish an assignment of the Limitless God?

A man who has accomplished great things with God and made an impact which has shaped culture, is a man who has absolute dependence on God.

Paul the apostle showed us the secret to His great accomplishments.

“…by the grace of God I have laboured more than they all…” (1 Corinthians 15:10).

The Lord who made you, knows the weight of the assignment He has entrusted to you; therefore He has made abundance of resources and grace available for your benefits. Yours is to take advantage of these resources.

David said to Goliath,  “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” 1 Samuel 17:45 (NKJV)

Don’t confront any assignment or task or life situation by your strength.

    Deploy the tools of God.

Let your confidence be in the Lord. As you spend time in prayer and the meditation of the word, He will show you what to do.

    Where is your strength?

    Just as the Lord spoke through the Prophet Isaiah (as quoted in the opening verse), He is still speaking to you today;

“For I am Yahweh your God, who strongly takes hold of your right hand,
Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.”

Beloved, don’t be afraid. The Lord knows what is at stake. He will not leave you. He is strongly holding your hand and is with you as your helper. Depend on Him at all times.

Don’t be like the people of the world.

    Let this be your testimony:

“Some find their strength in their weapons and wisdom, but my miracle deliverance can never be won by men. Our boast is in the Lord our God, who makes us strong and gives us victory!” Psalm 20:7 (TPT)

ATTEMPT SOMETHING GREAT FOR THE LORD

“Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver:”

    1 Chronicles 29:3 (NKJV)

The Lord’s assignment has never been small. Even the things which seem little are the embodiment of great seeds.
When Jesus told His disciples to go into all the nations, he didn’t consider the ratio of His disciples to the world’s population.

It is estimated that the world’s population at the time of Jesus was around 300 million. And Jesus asked that they take the gospel of the Kingdom to all nations. The assignment was unto generations yet unborn.

He wanted to see all men saved, as He worked through His disciples. It was a great task, so the Lord asked them to tarry until they were imbued with power.

For God to call you into fellowship or partnership with Him (1 Corinthians 1:9) means He has also invited you to share in His great burdens. He made you and created you for His foreordained good works (Ephesians 2:10).

And He doesn’t leave you to yourself, He works with you to do great things.

With God we will do great things; for by him will our haters be crushed underfoot.” Psalm 108:13 (BBE)

To do great things with God, you must first learn to channel your desires correctly.

    What is your desire?
What takes the attention of your heart?

Until you set your affection towards the Lord, you will not be able to do great things with God.

David the king showed us how he was able to give his best towards the building of the Lord’s house:

“Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver:” 1 Chronicles 29:3 (NKJV).

To set your affection on something means you have made it your delight, or it has overwhelmed your mind and pleasure.
    This is the first thing to consider in attempting something great for the Lord;

SET YOUR AFFECTION ON THE LORD AND HIS VISION.

Whatever overwhelms your affection or desire has your attention and resources. Desire is the primary fuel that causes you to do great things for the Lord.

    To increase in desire for the Lord;

    1. Spend time meditating on the Word of God and beholding great things others have done for the Lord.

    2. See God’s heartbeat. See how the Lord wants to give hope to a hopeless, clueless generation.

    3. Understand the meaning and purpose of life. See that the meaning of life transcends the portrait of the world. The life of Christ is the picture of the true meaning of life.

    4. Make it your meditation, think about it, talk about it and train your heart to rejoice in it.

    5. Spend time with people who share in the new desires you cultivate. Be in the right company of people sharing in your burdens and desires.

    6. Attempt something great for the Lord and be determined to do more.

    7. Make time to pray and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

The more you follow these things, the more you intensify your affection towards the Lord’s assignment.

    GO ALL OUT FOR JESUS

“Master,” said David, “don’t give up hope. I’m ready to go and fight this Philistine.”

    1 Samuel 17:32 (The Message)

Whatever God wants to do in time, He does it through a people He has called out and sent.

Though Jesus is the head of the Church, He has also raised leaders, or shepherds, to the Churches for the administration of His word and His purpose.

The will and counsel of God are established in this world through His Church. And by His eternal counsel and wisdomHe has set leaders or shepherds (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers), to equip, instruct and guide the saints to work and achieve God’s goal.

The adversary attacks leaders of the various churches or ministries to disturb the work of God. He also uses cunning means to distract the focus and interest of the believers. He drifts them away from the Lord’s assignment to their personal ambitions.

Some have conformed their minds to the ideas, cultures and systems of this world. Others have gradually lost their confidence and zeal in the Lord.

They find it difficult to show up for Jesus and stand with their leaders in the work of the ministry. They make excuses whenever they have to take up responsibility in the Church.

They are gradually drawing back from getting involved in the war for souls.

The bold step David took to confront Goliath is an example of faith for every believer in Christ.

Many are within the Church but will hardly take a stand for the Church amid opposition.

In this post-modern era of social media, there is the abuse of freedom of speech and most people have cheaply become influencers. And they use their platforms to bastardize the glorious Church of Jesus.

Everyone is throwing a jab at the Church and making the Church the focus of their attacks. Even believers who are in the Church, have subtly turned against the Church.

Many have also become lovers of themselves, lovers of money, scoffers of God and pursue their own interests, as Paul mentioned in his letter to Timothy.

“For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.” 2 Timothy 3:2 (NLT).

People who love themselves cannot stand with God or show up with Jesus. They are not available for the Kingdom assignment.

Only a few believers are ready to go all out for Jesus.

They become frightened and feel hopeless at the slightest confrontation.

    They are like Saul’s army:

“The Israelites, to a man, fell back the moment they saw the giant—totally frightened…” 1 Samuel 17:24 (Message)

Are you part of those who fall back and are frightened by the opposition of this world?

Or are you among those who show up with Jesus in all places?

Are you an encouragement to your Pastor?

Can your Church leader set gospel outreach goals with you standing with him or her?

Are you controlled by the systems of this world or you are shining forth the light of the gospel?

Among the army of Israel were the senior brothers of David, who were trained for war; yet, they hid themselves in the camp or within the lines on the battlefield. They were not able to step forward or take a stand for the Lord.

Are you hiding among the crowds like the other brothers of David?
Or you are ready to stand out like David?

Can your Pastor or Leader share this testimony about you:

“There is no one like Timothy. What sets him apart from others is his deep concern for you and your spiritual journey. This is rare, my friends, for most people only care about themselves, not about what is dear to the heart of Jesus the Anointed. You know Timothy is genuine in the Lord’s ways. He has been a faithful partner to me as we express the good news, as much as my own flesh and blood would have been.” Philippians 2:20-22 (Voice)

Are you labouring with your leader in the gospel like Timothy did with Paul?

This is the time to GO ALL OUT FOR JESUS, for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.
