LET NOTHING KEEP YOU AT
A DISTANCE FROM GOD 1
“we come closer to God and approach him with an open heart, fully convinced by faith that nothing will keep us at a distance from him. For our hearts have been sprinkled with blood to remove impurity and we have been freed from an accusing conscience and now we are clean, unstained, and presentable to God inside and out!”
Hebrews 10:22 (TPT)
God made man and planted Him in His presence for eternal communion.
Man was not made to live outside God’s presence. However, after Adam turned away from God’s instructions, he became guilty at heart and couldn’t approach God’s presence.
He hid himself from the presence of the Lord because of guilt and the sense of condemnation.
That has always been the challenge of man after sin entered the world.
The matter of sin, guilt, and a sense of condemnation is rooted in unbelief. But the only way man can commune with God is by faith.
To commune with God by faith is to live by the word of God. All things came into being by the word. Man’s relationship with God was according to the speaking of God.
Man is only able to approach God on the grounds of faith. This faith is a confident assurance in who God is and what He has supplied to man.
Under the Old Covenant, God established the Aaronic Priesthood as a means to usher man into His presence.
God never wanted to be distanced from His people. No matter the corruption of man, He still made provisions to reach out to man and to bring him into fellowship with Him.
When the Israelites left Egypt, the Lord instructed Moses to build a tabernacle, that He might be in their midst. The tabernacle had the outer court, where animal sacrifices were made.
It also had the holy place (which had the seven lampstands, the table of shewbread, and the altar of incense) and then the most Holy Place.
The Holy Place was not made accessible to everyone. It was only the High Priest who had the consecration to enter the Most Holy Place. It was there in the Holy Place, God’s glory manifested.
The ark of the covenant was kept in the Most Holy Place. A special veil separated the most holy place from the other parts of the tabernacle.
Now understand that, though God made Moses to consecrate the High Priest to be the only person to legally enter the Most Holy Place, God in His wisdom made provision to commune with the entire nation of Israel in the Most Holy Place.
Aaron, as a high priest was a representative of God to the people and the people to God. He was to wear a special garment that distinguished and separated him for his assignment. This high priest’s garment had shoulder pieces that held the breastplate and the ephod (which we will discuss further later). The shoulder pieces were made of two onyx stones (one on each shoulder), and upon each of the onyx stones will be engraved with six names of the twelve tribes of Israel. (Exodus 28:2-12)
Meaning Aaron was adorned in this gracious garment to be a representation of the children of Israel before the Lord.
“You shall put the two stones on the [two] shoulder pieces of the ephod [of the high priest], as memorial stones for Israel; and Aaron shall bear their names on his two shoulders as a memorial before the LORD.“ Exodus 28:12 (Amplified Bible)
Whenever the High Priest stood before the Lord in the most Holy place, it was a memorial before the Lord that the entire nation of Israel was before Him.
God fellowshiped with the whole nation through the High Priest.
But the High Priest couldn’t just draw close or enter the Most Holy Place.
Before he could enter the Most Holy Place, there were some specific things which have to be in place. Apart from the burning of incense (Leviticus 16:12-13), another crucial thing he needed was an unblemished blood (Leviticus 16:3; Hebrews 9:7).

With these things in place, the High Priest enters the Holy place or draws close to the presence of the Lord with confidence.
The High Priest approaching God’s presence with confidence was the entire nation approaching God with confidence.
Everything in and about the tabernacle is a prophetic and typographical representation of Jesus, His redemptive work and what He accomplished through His life, death and resurrection.
Jesus has a better Priesthood than that of Aaron. Aaron’s Priesthood produced a temporal experience of God’s presence; however, Jesus did an eternal work and ushered all who shall believe in Him into an eternal fellowship with God without any sense of guilt.
Under the Aaronic Priesthood, there were yearly sacrifices made. But Jesus, who is the perfect High Priest, made a perfect, eternal sacrifice once and for all.
“And by his one perfect sacrifice he made us perfectly holy and complete for all time!” Hebrews 10:14 (TPT).
Now we are not like Adam, who had to hide himself from the presence of God. We are not like the Israelites, who needed yearly offerings before they gained some temporal confidence before the Lord. And then after some limited time, they become guilty of sin. We are saved through Christ’s perfect and eternal sacrifice.
Now through Christ’s sacrifice, we have eternal access into God’s presence. We dwell and enjoy His presence every day, not because of our self-righteousness, but by the perfection of Jesus.
Adam hid from God because of guilt and a sense of condemnation through the sin of unbelief. We boldly approach and enjoy the Lord because of the blood of Jesus.
Refuse to distance yourself from the Lord.
Don’t allow any guilt or wrong to draw you away from God.
Live daily in the confidence of the eternal sacrifice of Jesus.
Hallelujah!
DIG DEEPER
(Hebrews 7:19; Romans 5:1-2; 1 John 3:19-21; Ephesians 3:12; Hebrews 4:16; Psalm 73:28)
WE PRAY
Thank the Lord for granting you access into eternal fellowship with Him through His Son, Jesus.
