Machaira with Apostle Bennie, Repentance, Salvation

EPISODE 852 – UNDERSTANDING SALVATION AND REPENTANCE 2

CHRIST COMMONWEALTH-COMMUNITY

The Love-Life Agency

Don’t cower or recoil simply because you have not seen any answer yet. Be persistent! Continue shamelessly in prayer to God, until you see the change you are looking for or the manifestation of the word! Remember being persistent is not faithlessness but rather a consistent attitude of faith. Hallelujah!

UNDERSTANDING SALVATION AND REPENTANCE 2

“Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”

Romans 2:4 (NKJV)

From the previous episode, I explained that:

– Repentance is not the same as Salvation.
– Salvation is God’s work, while repentance is what Salvation produces in you.
– Under the Old Covenant, Repentance was the requirement for God’s goodness and deliverance.
– However, in the New Testament, it is God’s goodness that leads to repentance.

There are many who think that preaching the gospel of Jesus is to preach repentance. The preaching of the gospel is not a message of repentance. The gospel is a message of God’s salvation. And when the gospel is preached, people demonstrate repentance.

Some claim the primary message of Jesus is repentance.

No please! Jesus’ message was not essentially a message of repentance.

“…Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17 (NKJV)

Does this make “REPENTANCE” the central theme of Jesus’ message?

Get this, the central theme of Jesus’ message wasn’t what you will do. The central theme of Jesus’ message was Himself. Jesus came to show forth God’s Salvation.

He is the Salvation of the Lord.

He said, the scriptures testify of me. (John 5:39).

You are not saved eternally by your repentance. You are saved eternally by believing in Jesus.

In the New Testament, the words “repentance” and “repent” are not necessarily the same. Though they share the same root word.

Today, let’s dive into the word “REPENT”.

The word “REPENT” is from the Greek word,
“metanoeō”, which means “to think differently” or to have a change of mind.

So why did Jesus announce that they REPENT?

The Jews didn’t see Jesus as their Salvation. They still believed in their old traditions and works of the law as a way to Salvation.

They didn’t know the presence of Jesus was the manifestation of the Kingdom and their Salvation.

The preaching of Jesus was to shift the Jewish minds from the Old Covenant to the fulfilment of the New Covenant in Him.

He was announcing to them to turn away from their self-efforts, and believe in Him unto Salvation.

Jesus was not announcing a change in their behaviour or character, or moral conduct. Because they cannot be upright or live out the righteousness of God until they have received Him as the life of God.

Here is what Jesus said about Himself:

“God did not send his Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it!  So now there is no longer any condemnation for those who believe in him, but the unbeliever already lives under condemnation because they do not believe in the name of God’s beloved Son.” John 3:17-18 (TPT)

Again, He said:

“I am the bread of life. Come every day to me and you will never be hungry. Believe in me and you will never be thirsty.”John 6:35 (TPT).

Do you see that?

He preached Himself as the way to eternal Salvation.

After Peter the apostle had preached the goodnews of Jesus on the day of Pentecost, they asked, “…what shall we do?”

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38 (KJV)

Was Peter demanding a change of behaviour or a change of mind about Jesus?

If it’s about a change of behaviour, then how long did it take Peter to determine that they have changed?

Look at what happened?

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:41 (KJV)

How did they receive the word or message Peter preached?

They did have a change of mind about their previous rejection of Jesus. The message Peter preached made them understand that the Jesus who was crucified was their Saviour and His death and resurrection were for their Salvation.

God’s Salvation has already been made available to all men through Jesus.

The preaching of the gospel is able to cause the hearers to have a change of mind (to repent).

This then makes them believe and receive the goodnews of the gospel unto Salvation.

Now, maybe you are already saved while reading this Machaira with Apostle Bennie devotional, but don’t have the understanding that the Salvation you have received in Christ is eternal.

What you need is to REPENT (to have a change of mind) about this great Salvation you have received.

Hallelujah!

Insight received. Most often, preachers use the word “repent “ in a fearsome tone, warning men to check their moral behavior.
Thanks be to God, today’s episode throws more light for better understanding as it is written in the scriptures.
