HONOUR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER

“Honour thy father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise”

Ephesians 6:2 (KJV)

As part of the many commandments God gave His people, He specifically commanded that they honour their fathers and mothers.

It was the first commandment which had a blessing directly connected to it.

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12 (KJV)

Get this, God transmitted the gift of life and gave you the opportunity to exist through the union of your father and mother. Without them (whether by intention or mistake), you wouldn’t have entered time.

Honouring your father and mother is not a mere regulation but a principle of wisdom that gives you an advantage for a long life.

It wasn’t a commandment scripted by fathers and mothers to bully their children. It is an age-long commandment designed by God to give children an advantage or a long life. And it remains relevant with its blessings even today.

One of the key things to do to lengthen your days in time is to honour your father and mother.

This commandment is a cheat code for long life. And those who take heed to it shall enjoy the satisfaction thereof.

This commandment doesn’t come with any “if clause”.
The Lord did not say honour your father and mother, if they are born again or “Christians”.

He didn’t say honour your father and mother, if they are rich or wealthy and popular.

He didn’t say honour your father and mother, if only they always agree with you and do your bidding.

The Lord didn’t say honour father and mother if they are not wicked or ungodly.

The matter of honouring your father and mother is constant, irrespective of what or who they are.

To honour is also not the same as to obey. To obey your parents is to carry out their instructions. However, in the order of hierarchy, it is always important to obey the Lord first. Thus, in obeying your parents, you don’t just do anything at all, which wouldn’t bring glory and praise to God.

And if you are to obey the Lord first, then you must diligently and intentionally honour your parents because it is a command of God which you must obey!

When it comes to honouring your parents, there are no exemptions.

The commandment is to HONOUR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER…

You have to honour your father and mother irrespective of your age, beliefs or religiousity, social status, and class. It doesn’t matter whether you are 50 years, 30 years, 80 years, or one with many children, you must still honour your father and mother.

This demonstration of honour brings harmony and peace within the family set up.

Your father and mother may not only be biological, but also those who nurtured you to advance or flourish in age and gave meaning to your existence.

These kinds of fathers and mothers are life-sustainers and God’s investments.

To honour is to value as precious.

Read the opening verse in the Amplified Bible:

“HONOR [esteem, value as precious] YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER [and be respectful to them]—this is the first commandment with a promise” Ephesians 6:2 (Amplified Bible)

How do you esteem your father and mother?

How do you value your father and mother?

How do you care for your father and mother?

How precious are they to you?

How do you make them enjoy the satisfaction of life?

Do you speak evil of them?
Do you give the opportunity for others to disrespect and dishonour them?

Go to every extent to make them feel honoured.

Until you learn to esteem your father and mother, you have not yet proven yourself to be wise.

Selah.

Proverbs 23: 22-25 Amp

Listen to your father, who sired you,
And do not despise your mother when she is old
The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice,
And he who sires a wise child will have joy in him.
Let your father and your mother be glad,
And let her who gave birth to you rejoice [in your wise and godly choices].

Thank you Lord Jesus.
The command is to honour and it is still in effect today. To have a long life on earth and avoid untimely death, honour you mother and father.
Whether they were responsible or not, honour them.
Whether they mistreated or hated, honour them.
Whether they are rich or poor, honour them.
Whether I become richer than them, I must still honour.

I will not have thr privilege of sharing Christ with other, being in CC, and rasing men if God did not allow them to bring me here on earth, whether they dumped me or one dumped me, it does not matter. The command is to honour them.

In doing this, I will be a better person and have extended years on earth.

Thank you Jesus

Deut.5.16 “Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. (NKJV)

This phrase in the verse above really pricks me;
“That it may be well with you”

I will highly esteem my mother and father, at all times.

Thank you Apostle for such an enlightenment.

This is eye opening
Even in times when you. Are right makes sure honour leads you in every. Dealing with you parents and in speaking truth speak it with all humility and that will put you on a different standard that will be very obvious because if your parents you abusing words and you speak graciously it shows you are of a different spirit and if they are thoughtful and humble they will learn from it

ABOUT MACHAIRA WITH APOSTLE BENNIE

Machaira with Apostle Bennie is a sword of the Spirit that cuts deep into your heart and being.

The word SWORD is from the Greek word “Machaira”. Thus Machaira simply means sword. However, it is not just any sword. Of the arsenal of swords a Roman soldier would use, this sword was the most unpredictably brutal, deadly and indispensable weapon of them all. This sword was more like a dagger used for close range combat.

This certainly was a violent weapon during a fight. Understand that as saints we are at war, and as good soldiers we must utilise the weapons of war given us. We have the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is THE WORD OF GOD!

The more you use your machaira (spirit-sword), the more you learn how to use it in order to exercise your victory through each battle and challenging times.

Have you taken up your MACHAIRA today?
