THE CLIMAX OF SALVATION 2 – HIS SUFFERING
“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.”
1 Thessalonians 5: 9-10 (KJV)
The security of our Salvation is that our Lord Jesus DIED for us.
The effect and impact of our Lord Jesus’ death and resurrection were not temporal.
What our Lord Jesus accomplished through His death is eternal.
And at His coming, we shall be saved from the slavery of corruption and the coming destruction according to His death.
As I mentioned in the previous episode, the matter of the death of our Lord Jesus and the method or process by which His crucifixion was executed was horrific.
Our Lord Jesus didn’t just die for us, He also suffered for us. He wasn’t just beaten and mocked, He was tortured and bruised for our transgressions.
“…the chastisement of our peace was upon Him…” (Isaiah 53:5)
Pontius Pilate didn’t want Jesus to be crucified. Therefore, he decided to scourge our Lord to appease the people.
This scourge was a Roman torture which was so horrific and shameful that Roman citizens were not allowed to go through such torture.
He wasn’t just flogged, He was scourged with a rope whip called the flagrum or flagellum.
This whip is more dreadful and terrific than the one referred to as a “cat o’ nine tails” (which originated from ancient Egypt, but was made popular by the English Navy around the 1700s).
As I said previously, a detailed description of Jesus’ scourge wasn’t necessary in the gospels, because anyone who heard of the Romans’ scourge and crucifixion in the first century knew its dreadfulness.
Usually, the victims of such horrific scourging will be stripped naked and strapped or shackled to a lower column or a pole, and skilled soldiers will each have a flagellum to take turns in beating the victim continuously until he’s a step away from death.
The flagrum is a whip with multiple pieces of metal or bones attached to the end, which lacerates and rips out chunks of flesh when wrenched, ripping small blood vessels, nerves, muscle, and bruising and exposing internal organs.

The soldiers scourge the victim from the upper torso, down to the back, including the chest area, up the back of the legs above the knees, calves, and up the arms, even around the neck and face.
Josephus (a first-century historian) stated in his historical account that certain rebellious Jews were torn to pieces by the scourge before being crucified.
Remains of scourge victims were found by archaeologists, and realized, these victims were scourged in the face and on top of the skull.
According to Ecclesiastical History, victims who narrowly survive such torture live disfigured forever. They become a sign of caution to others that, “Don’t mess with Rome. If you defy the Romans, this is the consequence.”
What does it remind you of?
Isaiah the Prophet said concerning Jesus:
“But many were amazed when they saw him. His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man.” Isaiah 52:14 (NLT)
This was exactly what our Lord Jesus suffered for us. He went up to Golgotha, carrying a cross of more than 200 pounds in weight, while His lungs were bruised, His intestines and inner organs were hanging out, His rib cage was visible on both sides, and the muscles around His spine were exposed. He was also losing about 125 millilitres of blood. He wasn’t just walking for miles to Golgotha carrying the heavy cross. Moments when he experienced tremors, seizures, and fainted, he was still beaten. With thorns piercing and stabbing the facial nerves and causing traumatic shock even through the skull, He did not complain.
The steady loss of fluid caused the heart to be unable to pump blood to the body. His injured lungs caused pleural effusion (abnormal accumulation of fluids in the lungs and chest area). And this would definitely make breathing difficult. The ripped and fractured ribs would make breathing painful.
Apart from suffering these physical tortures, He was verbally abused and mocked so that He would also be crushed and bruised emotionally or mentally.
Don’t attempt to imagine yourself in such a horrific state.
Jesus chose to suffer these for you. He didn’t just walk up for many miles to the cross to die for you.
Even His suffering was to endure all infirmities of the body. It wasn’t just for our Lord to heal or deliver you from eternal damnation. His suffering was proof that He has conquered all present physical infirmities as well.
Every physical condition one may experience, Jesus experienced it on the cross. Is it a condition about lungs, heart, spine, bones, brain, kidneys, other internal organs, or what really will be the condition that you will not find Jesus enduring for you?
He endured it all.
The salvation which you have obtained in Christ wasn’t cheap. It was costly!
Walk in this consciousness and hope of this salvation, that is your helmet!

Jesus had to endure all these pain and tremor then some ignorant religious groups say he never died but was exchanged and taken away
but they are not to be blamed because of the message the priest and teachers of the law passed on to the people about what happened to Jesus that is why if the Holy spirit didnt come as a witness Jesus would also have been history because there will be no proof and evidence of his existence if he didn’t indwell us by the Spirit
He would have just been a memorable leader who just came to inspire men
