BE WATCHFUL AS THE LORD COMES 2
“Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
1 Thessalonians 5:6 (KJV)
The apostle Paul wasn’t admonishing the brethren to be watchful because the coming of the Lord was going to be a day of terror for the believers.
As a believer you are in the light and not in darkness.
This is your advantage.
Which means every believer must look forward to the coming of the Lord with great joy and hope.
To be “watchful” is from the Greek word, “grēgoreō”, “must stay alert.” To “not sleep”. It can also mean to stay awake and be vigilant.
This is mainly about your spiritual awareness and consciousness. To be this alert or vigilant also means to remain active and not be complacent.
To be watchful is not about looking on without doing nothing till the Lord comes.
The proof that you are watchful involves being actively engaged in the pursuit of God’s purpose and living a life which causes men to glorify Him.
To sleep is to be in active in the things of the Spirit, to be complacent and uninterested in the things of Christ. As believers in Christ, we have a mandate to live a life of purpose and with a sense of urgency.
Beloved in Christ, the key items which distinguish you from the children of darkness includes:
– The New life you have received in Christ
– Your identity in Christ
– Your position in Christ
– Your disposition in Christ
And that is not all.
The practical living of the life you have received also distinguishes you from the people of the world.
As children of light, how we live is what makes people see the light we carry.
As part of we living the faith life, our demonstration of readiness for the day of the coming of Lord, distincts us from the world. In contrasts with those who belong to the night and darkness, Paul the apostle urges believers through his epistle to live in a manner that reflects their true identity.
You don’t have to be spiritually asleep like the rest of the world who are in darkness.
Utilize every resource God has given you to execute His purpose for you here on Earth. Make everyday count, spread the goodnews of Jesus to all men.
Get men saved and transformed through the knowledge of Christ.
Intercede in prayer for the salvation of souls.
Jesus is coming and get busy for His coming. Don’t fold your arms, make a difference in someone’s life.
Hallelujah!
