THIS JESUS 2
“Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.”
Acts 17:3 (KJV)
The revelation of Jesus is not a fairy tale neither is it an old fable.
Peter the apostle of Jesus, was passionate about this he said:
“For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts” 2 Peter 1:16-19 (KJV)
The revelation of the reality of Jesus is not a cunningly devised fable but a mere sure word of prophecy.
The blessing of Jacob upon his son Judah, was a Messianic prophetic utterance which was fulfilled by Jesus.
Balaam saw the revelation of Jesus when he saw the people of Israel pitched at the valley of Moab.
“How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel… his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. God brought him forth out of Egypt… I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel“ Numbers 24:5,7-8,17 (KJV)
The wise men saw the star of Jesus appear in the east and went to bow to Him as the new King. This was the fulfillment of what Balaam saw and also what the Psalmist said concerning the Messiah.
“Distant kings will surrender and come with their gifts from every continent and coastland; they will offer their tribute to you. O King of kings, they will all bow before you. O King of kings, every nation will one day serve you.” Psalm 72:10-11 (TPT)
When Matthew was writing the Bethlehem account of Jesus, he had some Messianic Prophecies in mind.
To those around the baby Jesus, it was just a child enjoying blessings. But in the mind of Matthew, it was ancient oracles playing out.
Yes, to Isaiah the Prophet, he was speaking over Jerusalem.
Matthew saw the fulfilment of those words in the lives of Jesus.
“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.” Isaiah 60:1-6 (KJV)
Oh, glory to God!
Beloved, this is not to put words on the lips of the gospel account of Matthew.
Before the wise men saw the child, they first went to Herod’s palace, thinking the child was born there, since they knew he was the new King.
These wise men were asked to return to Herod when they found the child. But the intention was for Herod to kill the child.
He later commanded a mass killing of every baby boy two years old and younger, since the wise men did not return with the news of the child’s location. Jesus’ parents escaped to Egypt with Him. According to Matthew’s account, this was for the scriptures to be fulfilled.
“So that very night he got up and took Jesus and his mother and made their escape to Egypt and remained there until Herod died. All of this fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through his prophet: I summon my Son out of Egypt “ Matthew 2:14-15 (TPT)
The prophet Hosea prophesied, “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.” And Jesus came as the fulfilment of this prophecy.
No wonder the Lord said,
“You are busy analyzing the Scriptures, frantically poring over them in hopes of gaining eternal life. Everything you read points to me” John 5:39 (TPT)
When you genuinely study the scriptures, they will bring you to the Person of Jesus.
Many read and still look forward to the first coming of the Messiah. Yet they did not know that the Messiah walked among them and now He will be appearing in His full glory. This is the best time to believe in Jesus as LORD. And if you do, this is the best time to express His life and light to the world.
This Jesus is not merely another prophet. This Jesus is the CHRIST!
