EPISODE 681 – NAVIGATING FAITH DURING ELECTION 1

CHRIST COMMONWEALTH-COMMUNITY

The Love-Life Agency

Can you continue to serve God’s purpose even when people offend you, falsely accuse you, attack your integrity, blackmail you, humiliate you, persecute you, seek your death, criticize you, insult you, gossip about you and hate you? By your strength, you may not be able to fulfill God’s purpose amidst such challenges. But by the strengthening of the Lord, you can face and prevail in all challenges. To be strengthened with Christ is to be infused with confidence and peace. Shalom!

NAVIGATING FAITH DURING ELECTION 1

“Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.”

Deuteronomy 1:13 (KJV)

One crucial matter that affects the trajectory of a people and cannot be ignored is leadership. Who leads you can affect how things happen around you.

As believers, we are not of this world, yet we are in the world. (John 17:16)

Because you are in the world, you must be concerned about what happens in the world.

Don’t become passive about what is happening around you.
It matters who is leading your constituency, province, city, region, state, country or nation.

Leadership has a lot to do with the direction of a people. There are some believers who seem to be passive when it comes to the political leadership of their country. They are of the opinion that all politicians are the same. They describe all politicians as selfish, deceptive, corrupt and godless. In as much as this may be factual on some fronts, it is subjective. Not all go into politics to satisfy their selfish interest. No matter how corrupt the world is, God has His people in the world. And you are one of them.

Some don’t think democracy is needed at all. No matter which political system or ideology you support, think of what better serves the people within a landscape. Not every society will thrive under the same political system, and all political systems have weaknesses.
Democracy is not entirely wrong. It began with the idea of giving a voice to all people.
In ancient Athens, there was a man named Cleisthenes who was from an Aristocratic family and served as a chief archon or magistrate. He initiated a revolutionary idea called “demokratia” to give a voice or ruling power to the people. Though this concept hit the runway or was introduced by Solon (known as the champion of the people in ancient Athens), Cleisthenes developed and enforced it, thus becoming the father of democracy. In ancient times, Greek nations were ruled and controlled by Aristocrats. However, Cleisthenes realized he could amass greater power to serve his people by giving voice to the people. He aligned himself with the population against the nobles to enforce a democratic reformation.

Though democracy has evolved into several concepts and different models, the idea remains – power to the people. However, the democratic concept still maintained the need for the appointment of specific people to help in the leadership of the city or the people. Definitely, every human institution may have its weaknesses and disadvantages. One major means by which the people can express their power is through the election of leaders and referendum.

The people have the power to appoint who should lead them. And this gives an opportunity for those within such a democratic political system to appreciate what it means for all men to submit one to another.

Certainly, God’s Kingdom operates by a higher system of government. God’s kingdom government operates with no error because it is built on His person, nature and principles. God is Righteous, Love and Just.

“Your kingdom is founded on righteousness and justice; love and faithfulness are shown in all you do.” Psalm 89:14 (GNT)

However, the governing systems of men will have weaknesses because they run on the frailty of human wisdom.
For that reason as a believer, you cannot set your hope on the political systems of this world. We belong to and operate by the kingdom of God.
The beautiful thing about the operation of God’s kingdom is that it finds expressions of influence in every political or governmental space. The believer who understands the righteousness of God, the love of God, His wisdom and justice cannot be limited by any political structure, reformation or revolution.

As representatives of God’s kingdom within a frail political space, we must not sit on the fence but must circumspectly navigate the faith and wisdom of the Kingdom of God in this world.

Believers must not be quiet on the appointment of political leaders within a nation. As long as you are constitutionally eligible, exercise your right to determine who leads in your country.

“In the exultation of the just, there is great glory. When the impious reign, men are brought to ruin.” (Proverbs 28:12)

It is not evil for a believer to vote for who they believe will help their community, city, region, state or country.
If there is anyone who has the ability to make the right choice which will help others, it should be the believer in Christ.
It is expected that a believer will not make a choice out of selfishness, personal interest, or bitterness. But should make leadership choices and decisions according to the wisdom and love of God at work in him.

A believer in Christ has the responsibility to pray for the authorities within his or her country, nation or city so that there will be tranquillity. (1 Timothy 2:1-4).

If the scriptures encourage us to pray for political leaders, it will not discourage us from participating in the appointment of political leaders.
In a period of election, believers must pray for the citizens to vote for the right leaders with discernment.
Demonstrate faith for peace in your country or state through prayers and exercising your franchise to vote.

Thank you Jesus
I will not be quite in my political system. I will exercise my voting privileges and express my thoughts on national issues based on the wisdom of God and the love God.
I now understand that the political systems and leaders i permit to lead my country, city or town affect me and there is nothing i can do about it.

I also understand that in times like this i should pray for my friends and other citizens to vote for the right person. I am a significant determinant of learership decisions in my country.

Thank you Jesus
