HEARING GOD’S VOICE 27 –
GOD SPEAKS THROUGH MEN
“I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly”
Psalm 85:8 (NKJV)
Spiritual things are not just practised. One must patiently understand a subject before one can experience the best of it.
Until you grow in understanding of a matter, the adversary will always use deceptive means to create uncertainty in your heart.
That is why I thought through some of the questions the adversary poses to believers to distract their conviction on a subject.
Sometimes before the adversary leads you into deception, he puts questions in your heart. As he did in Eden, he asked through the serpent, “hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Now, if the devil can succeed at making you feel or think God doesn’t speak to believers today, he can leverage on that to lead you astray. When you start thinking you can’t hear the voice of God, or you cannot distinguish God’s voice, when God even speaks to you, you will have doubts and won’t be able to respond right to it.
From the things I have shared with you so far, you must have the conviction and understanding of God’s speaking.
I have answered questions such as:
– How do I hear the voice of God?
– Does God still speak to Christians apart from the canonized Bible?
– How does God speak to men?
– Does God speak to all men (the good people and the evil people)? Does he speak to unbelievers also?
– Is there really a voice of God or it’s a mere human hypothesis?
– Which mediums does God use to speak to His people?
– What is the texture of the Voice of God?
– What is the difference between the voice of God and my imagination?
– Are there other voices apart from the voice of God?
– How do I distinguish God’s voice from other voices, if there are?
Now these are genuine questions. Also if you have more questions to ask or follow-up questions concerning hearing God’s voice, send a mail or post it in the comment space.
Now let me touch on these two questions as well:
– If God has given me a Pastor why do I need to hear His voice?
– If God speaks to me why do I need a Pastor to teach me the Word?
These questions may sound the same but are distinctive. They are like the two sides of the same coin.
God speaks to you to prove His personal relationship with you. And also speaks to you through a spiritual leader or one who has spiritual authority over you to train you.
There are some who ignorantly argue that in this New Testament era, God doesn’t speak to people through men. He only spoke to kings and people through prophets.
This is far from what the scriptures teach.
In Paul’s conversion experience on his way to Damascus, Jesus spoke to him directly and later instructed Ananias to speak to him.
“And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.“ Acts 9:4-6 (KJV)
Later the Lord spoke to Ananias to go to Saul:
“And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight….And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.” Acts 9:10-12,17 (KJV)
Let’s look at another example:
Peter and Cornelius:
The Lord spoke to Cornelius to send for Peter, who will tell him things by which he shall be saved.
God could have spoken those words to Cornelius directly but chose to communicate the gospel through Peter (Acts 10:1-48)
Look at Peter’s instruction on his first epistle:
“Every believer has received grace gifts, so use them to serve one another as faithful stewards of the many-colored tapestry of God’s grace. For example, if you have a speaking gift, speak as though God were speaking his words through you. If you have the gift of serving, do it passionately with the strength God gives you, so that in everything God alone will be glorified through Jesus Christ. For to him belong the power and the glory forever throughout all ages! Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11 (TPT).
God gives people utterance to speak His words to encourage, instruct, build and equip the saints.
There are times when the word of God spoken through others to you serves as a confirmation of the things the Lord is saying to you.
God speaks to you directly through the Holy Spirit and speaks to you through your spiritual leaders and also other fellow saints.
Remember there is no speaking of God which is not consistent with the revelation of the word of God.
Selah!
