THE 5 BETTER NOTS 2

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”

Hebrews 2:1 (KJV)

The word of God is given to us to build and nourish our lives. You cannot have a beautiful life in Christ without the Word of God.

Anything God does is by His word. The universe was made by the Word of God. By His word, He brought forth Abraham and led Him into an inheritance.

By His word, the saving Grace of the Lord is made available to all men. And many who have believed and received His Word are saved.

The faith of the believer is not independent of the Word of God.

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. The believer shall continue to increase in faith by the Word of God.

This is why this “FIVE BETTER NOTS” discussion is crucial. Especially in this period that the adversary has been busy attempting to distract many believers from the Word of God.

From yesterday’s episode, I began to point out the first of the “FIVE BETTER NOTS”, which is:

DON’T DISREGARD the Gospel of Christ.

The Gospel of Christ is the same as the Word of Christ.

As you can see from the opening verse, the author of the Book of Hebrews was instructing the brethren to GIVE THE MORE EARNEST HEED TO THE THINGS THAT THEY HAVE HEARD through Christ.

This is to have a higher regard for the Word of Christ. It means you set the Word of Christ as the ultimate and most treasured Word which rules and governs your heart.
You don’t have to take the Word as one of those thoughts.

You will also notice that the verse begins with the word, “THEREFORE”. This word is an evidence that Hebrews chapter 2 doesn’t stand in isolation from the previous chapter. And you will find this a lot through the entire Book of Hebrews.

The entire books of the Bible must be read contextually and not be studied in their separate verses.

Originally the books of the Bible were not written in chapters and verses. They were altered into chapters and verses just to make references easy.

However, the Book of Hebrews is extremely in unison.
This is a book which cannot be treated by their individual verses and chapters. They are richly intertwined or knitted.

Chapters 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12 begin with the word “THEREFORE”. Therefore is a conjunctive adverb. It means, for that reason or consequently.

Chapters 5,7 and 10 begin with “FOR”. Though it is a preposition, it is sometimes used as a conjunction.

Chapters 8 and 11 begin with “NOW”. “Now” is sometimes used as a subordinating conjunction.

No single chapter stands alone in this epistle. I will leave the discussion of its authorship for another time.

Nevertheless, to appreciate the book of Hebrews and our discussion, you must have the understanding that, the book was written to unveil the Superiority of Christ over the Judaic system.

It was a book written specifically for Hebrews. The book unveils what Christ accomplished for the believer in ascension and what He is still doing as he is seated in glory. This book points to Christ as the Perfect High Priest.

The author takes time in His discussion to help the believer understand why they must not deny what Christ has accomplished for them and not draw back in faith.

The believer in Christ must set their confidence only in Jesus who is the ultimate source of salvation and not in other traditions of the Old Covenant.

The book of Hebrews did not begin with salutations. It was a direct book which went straight to the point. The author began to tackle the core issue from the first few sentences.

While Matthew, Mark, Luke and John discussed what Christ did in His earth walk, the book of Hebrews explains what Jesus is now doing in the Heavenly.

The goal of Chapters One into Two is to unveil the Superiority of Christ.

The Jews believed and esteemed:

1. Their Prophets

2. The activities of Angels.

3. Moses (the one who led them out of Egypt)

4. Aaron (their first appointed High Priest)

5. Joshua (the one who led them to the Promised Land).

6. The Covenant which was initiated at Sinai

7. The Tabernacle

The author of Hebrews took time to unveil how Christ is superior and better than all.

You can even see the connection between Chapter 1:1-2 and Chapter 2:1.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds” Hebrews 1:1-2 (KJV)

The present Word of God to us is what God has said through Christ. He further explains that this Christ Jesus is not an ordinary man.

Take a look:

“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” Hebrews 1:3-4 (KJV)

This Jesus is not an ordinary man neither is He just one of the Prophets. He is different. That:

He is the brightness of God’s glory.

He is the express image of God’s person.

He upholds all things by the word of His power.

He purged our sins.

He did a complete work once and for all and sat in the highest place of authority.

– He is made better than the angels.

– He has obtained a more excellent name than all of the names in the universe of God.

Which means in Christ we have access to the complete revelation of God. Jesus is the true and ultimate testimony of God.

Then in chapter 2:1, the author admonishes us that since in chapter 1 we see the Superiority of Christ:

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard…” Hebrews 2:1 (KJV)

What God has spoken through Christ is the ultimate truth therefore we must not disregard His Glorious Word no matter what.

Beloved, whose report or message do you believe?

Don’t disregard the Word of Christ. Esteem, absorb and enjoy the riches of His revelation.

Hallelujah!

WE PRAY
We pray that we shall grow more and more in the revelation of God through Christ.

BIBLE READING IN THE YEAR 2024
Luke 1 – 3

DECLARE THESE WORDS:
– I esteem the word more than all my life’s pursuits.

– I love and treasure the revelation of God because the word is the embodiment of God’s thoughts and wisdom.

– I give myself continually to the study and meditation of the word.

– I give no room for any pleasure of life to sway my attention.

– Through the scriptures, I live ahead of my generation.

Oh thank you Lord Jesus!

We'd love to connect with you!

To help you build a proper foundation of spiritual understanding.
