PRAISE JESUS FOR HE IS THE KING AND LORD
“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
Luke 19:38 (NKJV)
Some saints do not consider praising the Lord an essential matter in our walk with Him.
Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem has a lot of prophetic details. It was the fulfillment of a Messianic prophecy. In His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, He wasn’t only announcing Himself as the Passover lamb. He also announced Himself as the true Messiah.
In His entry, they beheld Him in His glory and celebrated His eternal royalty.
“Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying:
“‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Luke 19:37-38 (NKJV)
This is beautiful!!!
They couldn’t keep quiet and be calm.
This also happened so that the scriptures may be fulfilled. (Matthew 21:4; John 12:16).
When they saw Jesus, they saw the Messiah; they saw their King who is God. They didn’t see Him as an ordinary man. They didn’t see just a prophet. They saw God.
That was why they shouted and declared the Prophetic Psalm (which is a Praise to God for His everlasting Mercy).
Psalm 118 is parallel to Jesus’ Triumphal entry.
a. vv 20 speaks of the Righteous King entering the gate of the LORD.
b. vv 24 speaks of the people rejoicing and being glad. When Jesus entered Jerusalem the people rejoiced and praised God with a loud voice. (Luke 19:37).
c. vv 25 speaks of how the Psalmist shouted “Save now”. This is similar to the expression “Hosanna” which also means “Oh save” (Matthew 21:9).
d. The Psalmist declared “Save now… send now prosperity” and he blessed the Lord with these words:
Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ vv 25-26
The multitudes also declared “Hosanna” and blessed the Lord with the same words.
You can see from these verses that, the triumphal entry of Jesus was declared in detail beforehand.
No wonder after His resurrection, He taught His disciples who were on the road to Emmaus, all the things written concerning Himself.
“Then Jesus quoted them passage after passage from the writings of the prophets, beginning with the book of Genesis and going right on through the Scriptures, explaining what the passages meant and what they said about himself“ Luke 24:27 (TLB)
There were other key things you will find in Psalm 118; which may help you know why the Pharisees were offended with the Praise, shouts and the joy of the people.
In Psalm 118, we see the Prophetic declarations concerning Jesus:
1. The Psalmist declared the Lord as his Salvation (vv 14 and vv 21). Jesus is our Salvation. (Matthew 1:21; Acts 4:12). Thus, He is the LORD.
2. The rejected stone becomes the chief cornerstone (vv 22); Jesus is the rejected stone, who is now the chief cornerstone.(Luke 20:17; Acts 4:11; 1 Peter 2:7). Which again means He is the central focus of the Psalm.
3. The Psalmist specified that, the LORD he is speaking of is GOD.vv. 27 ” God is the LORD, And He has given us light;” Which means the LORD the Psalmist was praising and giving thanks to, is GOD.
Beloved “Jesus is the true Light, which gives light to every man that comes into this world.” (John 1:9, see also John 1:4-5; John 9:5).
Understand this, JESUS IS GOD according to the scriptures.
No one fulfilled the Messianic prophecies except Jesus. No man demonstrated and expressed all that God is in fullness like Jesus did.
“No one has seen God [His essence, His divine nature] at any time; the [One and] only begotten God [that is, the unique Son] who is in the intimate presence of the Father, He has explained Him [and interpreted and revealed the awesome wonder of the Father].” John 1:18 (Amplified Bible).
No wonder the Pharisees were troubled when the people rejoiced and spoke the Psalm.
They knew the content of the Psalm, alludes to the true Messiah who is God.
Now, here is Jesus living out the details of that prophetic Psalm.
Right before their eyes, the Prophetic Psalm was being played out.
And it was too hard for them to accept it.
Beloved, Jesus is the King and the LORD who is God; PRAISE HIM WITH THE GLADNESS OF HEART!
Hallelujah!
DIG DEEPER
(Psalm 118; Exodus 15:1-2; Luke 19: 28-40; John; Matthew 21:1-9;13-16)
WE PRAY
That our eyes of understanding shall be enlightened that we may see the Lord in His fullness of royal glory and praise Him daily.
