THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS 1 –

The Complete Armor Of God 8

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness

Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)

What kind of damage do you think will be caused when an arrow is shot directly at a soldier’s chest or rib area?

Such an attack may lead to death or serious injury. This is why the soldier’s breastplate is essential.

The breastplate is a defensive armor.

We are in a warfare against principalities and evil rulers of darkness; and at every given time, these evil forces would want to attack you in areas where they will cause you a lot of damage.

The adversary is interested in destroying the core of your being.

And this is why apart from the belt of truth you also need the breastplate of righteousness.

A good soldier armed and ready for battle will put on his breastplate.
The breastplate is an armor gear which covers the soldier from the neck to the waist. It also covers both the front and the back of a soldier.

The breastplate protects the vital areas of a soldier’s body, like the heart, lungs etc.

You have to understand that this warfare is not physical but spiritual. Though the adversary may afflict a person’s physical body with sicknesses and diseases, such afflictions or infirmities begin in the spirit.

It is not a fight against flesh and blood, but unseen forces.

The list of God’s armor we are looking into is not physical armor. This is a spiritual armor given to us by the Lord.

This is not an armor created by believers. It is the Lord who has provided us with this armor. Our role is to put it on intentionally.

This warfare mainly takes place in the spirit and the soul.

The wiles and schemes of the devil are deceptive thoughts.

The belt of truth girds your mind against every deceptive thought of the devil against the reality and revelation of Christ.

The breastplate of righteousness also defends your heart against every arrow of condemnation.

One of the strong deceptive arrows of the adversary is condemnation. Condemnation is the root of most believers’ challenges.

Condemnation makes you walk in fear. It makes you feel undeserving and worthless. Condemnation makes you lose confidence to commune with the Lord.

Most believers are not able to exercise the authority given to them in Christ because of condemnation and guilt.

Most believers are conscious of their sins or wrongs and imperfections.

When you commune with most believers, and ask them about their righteousness, they will boldly tell you, “I am not righteous, no man is righteous and no man can be righteous”.

The truth is that no man can be righteous by his or her efforts. Therefore Jesus legally gave us His righteousness.

The righteousness which we have in Christ is not our self-made righteousness. The righteousness which we have in Christ is the righteousness of God.

“For God made the only one who did not know sin to become sin for us, so that we who did not know righteousness might become the righteousness of God through our union with him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (TPT)

You are not made righteous by your own works or efforts. You are made righteous in Christ through your union with Christ.

To put on the breastplate of righteousness is not to put on your righteousness. Remember, the armor is called the armor of God.

“Put on God’s complete set of armor provided for us…” Ephesians 6:11 (TPT).

The armor is not your self-generated armor. The breastplate of righteousness is the righteousness of God.

When the adversary comes at you with thoughts of condemnation and guilt, refuse to see your weakness and wrongs. Instead, acknowledge how Christ has made you the righteousness of God in Him through His obedience.

To put on the breastplate of righteousness is to walk daily in the consciousness of how Christ has made you righteous through your union with Him.

Hallelujah!

I love how TPT puts it :

“For God made THE ONLY ONE WHO DID NOT KNOW SIN to become sin for us, so that WE WHO DID NOT KNOW RIGHTEOUSNESS might become the righteousness of God through our union with him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (TPT)

‭Isaiah 59:16-17 AMP‬
[16] He saw that there was no man, And was amazed that there was no one to intercede [on behalf of truth and right]; Therefore His own arm brought salvation to Him, And His own righteousness sustained Him. [17] For He [the Lord] put on righteousness like a coat of armor, And salvation like a helmet on His head; He put on garments of vengeance for clothing And covered Himself with zeal [and great love for His people] as a cloak.

‭1 Corinthians 1:30 AMPC‬
[30] But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God, [revealed to us a knowledge of the divine plan of salvation previously hidden, manifesting itself as] our Righteousness [thus making us upright and putting us in right standing with God], and our Consecration [making us pure and holy], and our Redemption [providing our ransom from eternal penalty for sin].

This is amazing mostly when I read this scripture I use to think of efforts I have to put in place as a soldier of the cross but reading this has made me realise that all I have to do is to be intentional that God has already provided these things for me and all I have to do is to use them.
Thank you so much Apostle sir
