PORTRAIT OF GRACE 2
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ”
John 1:17 (ESV)
The Grace of God is Jesus.
Who brought Salvation to all men?
“She will give birth to a Son, and you shall name Him Jesus (The LORD is salvation), for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (Amplified)
The child was given the name Jesus, because of who He is and His mandate. He is the Lord who is Salvation.
“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:17 (NKJV).
From the above verses, we can see that Salvation is a person and His work.
Let’s also take a look at Titus 2:11:
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men” (NKJV)
Does this suggest that there is another means by which we are saved apart from Jesus?
Not at all.
Salvation is only of Jesus. Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12).
At the Jerusalem council, some believers were Pharisees and wanted to mix the gospel with Jewish traditions; precisely the circumcision ritual before the Gentiles can be saved.
Peter then rose to address the situation and also said:
“Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.” Acts 15:10-11 (NKJV)
Salvation is through the grace of the Lord Jesus.
What this unveils is that the Grace of God is Jesus Himself.
The Grace of God is not only a doctrine or teaching; the Grace of God is a person and He is Jesus.
Our Lord Jesus is the embodiment and portrait or substance of the Grace of God.
Until you see Jesus as the person of Grace, you will think the Gospel of Grace is another message.
Jesus as the emodiment of Grace came to demonstrate or portray the Grace of God to all men.
The teachings of Peter, Paul and the apostles of Jesus were the revelation of Jesus and what He has achieved for all men. This message they preached or taught was the revelation of Grace. This revelation is an extensive expression of the life and reality of God in Christ.
Thus, the gospel of grace is not a different message of Jesus. The gospel of grace is the reality of Jesus.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. (1 Corinthians 16:23)
