YOU CAN HAVE GREAT FAITH 2
“When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”
Matthew 8:10 (KJV)
Though there are different levels or dimensions of faith, there are also different kinds of faith.
One of them is to have “GREAT FAITH“.
To have great faith is determined by how you act and function in the revelation of Jesus.
There are only two instances where FAITH was described as GREAT by Jesus. They were seen in two none Jews: A Roman centurion and a Canaanite.
(Matthew 8:10, Luke 7:9 and Matthew 15:28).
In all the two scenarios, the people involved broke certain walls of limitation to demonstrate great faith.
In places where Jesus may not have expected faith, He found great faith.
From the opening verse, you will see how Jesus marvelled at the Faith of the Roman Centurion. That wasn’t the only time Jesus marvelled; He also marvelled at how He found no faith in His own people of Nazareth.
To marvel is from the Greek word “thaumazō“. Which means to admire, to be astonished or to stand amazed. It also means to step back and say “Wow!“.
In a situation or place where Jesus thought there should be great faith, He witnessed a great level of faithlessness. He stepped back and was negatively “wowed” or dumbfounded.
Faith is of great concern to the Lord. Wherever great faith is found, there is the manifestation of great power.
From the previous discussion, I began to outline a few items needed to exercise great faith.
The first item is to demonstrate a great level of reverence and humility towards GOD.
Sometimes, we are tempted to subtly boast more of our rights in Christ instead of the Lord who gave us those rights. We enjoy great results of faith not only because of who we are but mainly because of who He is.
Our faith shouldn’t be in who we are but first who He is. We are what we are because of Jesus. And at all times, we have to submit to Him first.
Look at how the Roman Centurion demonstrated great faith.
“And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
When Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.” Matthew 8:5-10 (KJV
Despite the credentials of this Roman centurion, His humility before the Lord was overwhelming.
Beloved, to be counted worthy of the Lord’s presence in your life, or to have right standing with God without any sense of guilt by Christ Jesus, is a great privilege.
Learn to acknowledge the sure mercies and grace of God.
Just because you are now a son of God, a brother of Jesus, and have a mingled life with Christ doesn’t mean you are also a master on your own.
He says, “Without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
Jesus is your MASTER. The more you see Him as your Master, the more you submit to Him, and your faith finds genuine expressions through Him.
Remember, pride is the greatest limitation of Faith.
Secondly, the Roman Centurion ACKNOWLEDGED THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS
Not only did he humble himself and show how he revered the Lord, but He also acknowledged the greatness of Jesus’ power and authority.
Beloved, understanding is everything!
Your life will always be governed by your level of light.
His understanding of authority made him know how he can get results. He knew the health condition of his servant was caused by a great spiritual force, and to deal with that condition, he needed greater authority and force.
The centurion couldn’t think there was any authority greater than that of Jesus. All Jesus had to do for him was to speak a word.
Great faith acknowledges the power and authority of Jesus.
Are you sure there is a situation in your life which is above the authority of Jesus?
Great faith cannot doubt the power and authority of Jesus, no matter the situation.
Selah.

[…] If you have read the previous episode of this subject matter, you will realise Jesus, on two different occasions, MARVELLED! Jesus, at some point in His earth, walked, jad moments where He stepped back and said “Wow!”. If you are wondering, was it the incident when He walked on water or the moment when He resurrected Lazarus that got Him amazed? Relax! It was Jesus finding great faith in a man (the Roman Centurion), He never expected to such faith. And also a scenario where He couldn’t access or find any faith at all in a place where He thought there should have been great faith. “And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief.“ Mark 6:4-6 (ESV) Now in this situation, Jesus marvelled at the faithlessness of the people of Nazareth. These people didn’t know they were demonstrating great ignorance and dishonor towards the Lord.Every man of faith walks in honor and understanding of Jesus. These people of Nazareth dishonoured Jesus so much: “But in the next breath they were cutting him down: “He’s just a carpenter—Mary’s boy. We’ve known him since he was a kid. We know his brothers, James, Justus, Jude, and Simon, and his sisters. Who does he think he is?” They tripped over what little they knew about him and fell, sprawling. And they never got any further.” Mark 6:3 (MSG). Instead of esteeming the authority of Jesus, they rather undermined Him. No wonder Jesus couldn’t work any great miracle among them. The first item needed to exercise great faith in your life is to demonstrate great level of reverence and humility towards GOD. Secondly, acknowledge the authority of Jesus. Let’s read through the scripture again to identify the third item needed to walk in Great Faith: “And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.When Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.“ Matthew 8:5-10 (KJVGreat faith is not only seen as you walk in honor and also esteem the authority of Jesus.Great faith is also demonstrated when you walk in absolute obedience to the Word of God. It is having that unwavering confidence that whatever God says happens as He has said it. The Roman centurion knew when Jesus spoke to that sickness; it would obey immediately as a command. That is how faith works! It is an absolute confidence in the Word of God. It is time to act in great faith. It doesn’t matter what the challenge or ministry project is, make a decision to honor the Lord, recognize His power and authority and be confident that the word works; thus, it will do as it says. If you are reading this, know that the Lord has released you into a season of daring faith. Don’t take no for an answer, nor settle for less.Hold on to the Word of God, knowing that you walk in answers. The three items we have gleaned from the experience of the Roman centurion may seem simple but are rich in results. Enjoy great testimonies. Selah.
