HE KNOWS YOU BY NAME
“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out”Â
John 10:3-5 (NKJV)
Have you ever walked in a community new to you and suddenly you meet someone you don’t recognize, calls you by your own name?
How was the feeling?
It’s likely you will be surprised or feel accepted.
You step into a new beautiful office with a lot of respected people seated and some standing around. Then the boss walks in, calls you by name and ask you to follow him.
You can tell that special feeling right?
Look, currently there are more than 8 billion people on Earth. There are innumerable company of angels and many more spirits of just men. Each of these people have their own name.
Of all these multitudinous people, the Lord walks to you and calls you by name. The Lord knows you personally and intimately.
In ancient times, names were not given to people by impulse. Names were given to people according to their destiny or how they are destined to achieve. Thus, to know someone’s name is to understand the person’s mandate.
God knows your name; He knows you personally and your unique identity. You are not just a number in the midst of the multitudes.
When the Lord comes to His sheepfold, He calls each of His own sheep by name (John 10:3).
In several occasions, the LORD GOD called people by name. He also gives names to people or change their names to suit the destiny He has foreordained for them. Interestingly, you will find other instances where the Lord did not just call the names of the people, but called their names twice.
That is an affirmation to the reality that, He doesn’t call you by chance. It is by a personal knowledge of you.
On his way to Damascus, our Lord Jesus, called Saul twice. He didn’t just call Saul by his name, he also spoke in his dialect.
“And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew dialect, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” Acts 26:14 (NASB). See also Acts 9:4.
The Lord also called Abraham by name (Genesis 22:11-13), Jacob (Genesis 46:1-4); Moses (Exodus 3:1-10); Samuel (1 Samuel 3:1-10) Martha (Luke 10:38-42) and many others.
Irrespective of what you think of yourself or your history, the Lord knows you by name precious one. You matter to Him and He values you.
“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1 (ESV)
The Lord has engraved you in the palm of His hand. And takes delight in your personal matters. You are not ordinary.
Hallelujah!
Thank you Lord for the privilege to be known and valued by you. Thank you for placing your identity on me and establishing a personal relationship with me.
