MY SHEPHERD AND MY HOST 2
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over”
Psalm 23:5 (NKJV)
The Lord (who is your Shepherd) is the Creator of the universe. By Him all things were made; and nothing was made without Him. The entire universe revolves around Him, for He is the center of all things. (Colossians 1:16-17).
And you know, the LORD is your Shepherd and your Host.
Can you imagine having the creator of the universe being your Shepherd and your Host?
No wonder David said, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want“.
Your relationship with the LORD doesn’t end only as Shepherd and sheep. The Lord (who is the Shepherd) is also your Host.
As I mentioned previously, instead of the sheep to be prepared as meal for the table, the Good shepherd prepares a table for the sheep.
As a sheep, you are also the Shepherd’s guest. And He is the best Host you can ever have. Your welfare and comfort is the interest of your Host.
These ancient people esteemed the concept of hospitality. It was an obligation to receive and be hospitable to peaceful and harmless guests.
The host makes provision of food and any other thing the guest needs to be comfortable.
In Christ Jesus, we are invited to dine with Him.
Jesus says to them, “Come, dine”; and none of the disciples were venturing to inquire of Him, “Who are You?” Knowing that it is the LORD;” John 21:12 (LSV)
The disciples were convinced it was the Lord because that is His norm. Whenever He shows up He provides for His people and dines with them.
“HE PREPARES A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MY ENEMIES…” hints at the responsibility of the Host to provide and protect His guest.
Here is an example of providing and protecting the guest.
“So he brought him into his house and fed the donkeys; and they washed their feet and ate and drank. While they were celebrating, behold, men of the city, certain worthless and evil men, surrounded the house, pounding on the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring out the man who came to your house so that we may have relations with him.” Then the man, the master of the house, went out and said to them, “No, my fellow citizens, please do not act so wickedly. Since this man has come to my house [as my guest], do not commit this sacrilege”. Judges 19:21-23 (Amplified Bible)
When you read on, you will realise the host chose to sacrifice his concubine, in other to protect his guest.
The Lord has hosted you in an eternal feast. Right in the presence of your enemies, the Lord makes provision for you. He has given you everything you need according to His power and glory (2 Peter 1:3). And there is no need to be afraid, since your safety is the responsibility of your Host.
ENJOY THE SUPPLY OF THE LORD.
Selah.
WE PRAY:
That we enjoy divine provisions without fear of evil attacks.
