THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD 2 -I LACK NOTHING

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Psalm 23:1 (KJV)

You can only have the audacity to make such utterance when you know who your Shepherd is.

The boldness or confidence of David the King, is not because he said, “I SHALL NOT WANT” or “I LACK NOTHING”. His boldness or confidence is His Shepherd.

The Psalm 23:1 summarizes the whole message in the chapter.

The “I SHALL NOT WANT” is as a result of His confidence in the LORD who is His Shepherd and His submission to Him.

It is not only about knowing that the Lord is the Shepherd. It is your confidence in and submission to the LORD that matters. The Lord shouldn’t just be seen as the Shepherd in a generic or theoretical sense. You have to personalise the reality that: THE LORD IS YOUR SHEPHERD.

David the King didn’t just say the Lord is the Shepherd of Israel in this text. He didn’t say the Lord is the Shepherd of the nations or the world. He said, “THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD.”

This is where you find both the audacious conviction and sweet consciousness: MY Shepherd!

Oh glory to God!

Is that your personal conviction?

Is that how you consciously see the Lord?

Until your heart is subdued with the revelation that the Lord is YOUR SHEPHERD, you will not be able to comprehend the reality that YOU SHALL NOT WANT.

When you see the Lord by revelation that He is “MY SHEPHERD”, you just can’t be need conscious.

To say I shall not want means YOU LACK NOTHING.

Nothing means Nothing!

As long as a sheep submits to the authority, love and the leadership of its SHEPHERD, there is abundant provision for it.

So you must know within you that you are a SHEEP. Think like a sheep. As a sheep you must have absolute dependence on your Shepherd. There is no sense of dissatisfied need in a sheep.

A sheep knows that by the leading of his good shepherd, all his needs are supplied. A sheep also has no sense of discontentment with the shepherd. A sheep enjoys and is satisfied with what the shepherd supplies to him. A sheep does not desire satisfaction beyond what his shepherd has provided.

See what Isaiah says about the Lord:

“Like a shepherd, he will care for his flock, gathering the lambs in his arms, Hugging them as he carries them, leading the nursing ewes to good pasture” Isaiah 40:11 (MSG)

This is the beautiful heart of the GOOD SHEPHERD. All that is essential to life is abundantly supplied by God’s shepherding care.

Beloved, the Lord is all that you need.

Selah.

DIG DEEPER:

(Isaiah 40:11; Micah 7:14; Hebrews 13:20; 1 Peter 5:4; Revelation 7:17)

WE PRAY:

That our heart shall be established and saturated in the comfort and provision of our Good Shepherd.

From the daily bible reading, I learned that we should not put our hope in the systems of the world, as some cities put their hope in Egypt and Ethiopia, but rather put our trust in the most high God. Isaiah 20 verses 5 to 6  The sign’s message to Judah “Then they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia’s expectations and Egypt’s glory. And the inhabitant of this territory will say in that day, ‘Surely such is our expectation, wherever we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape?

In our walk with God, we win the battle by Him and through Him, not because we are sufficient of ourselves. We put our trust in the most high God.

ISAIAH 22 VERSE 8-11 You assessed your defenses that Day, inspected your arsenal of weapons in the Forest Armory. You found the weak places in the city walls that needed repair. You secured the water supply at the Lower Pool. You took an inventory of the houses in Jerusalem and tore down some to get bricks to fortify the city wall. You built a large cistern to ensure plenty of water.
You looked and looked and looked, but you never looked to him who gave you this city, never once consulted the One who has long had plans for this city.
