BE “MARY” IN A “MARTHA’S” WORLD 2
“But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things”
Luke 10:41 (Amplified Bible)
You don’t have to be born again and be controlled by the world.
You can be in this postmodern world and not be controlled or become a victim of its systems and demands. Those who are caught up in the exasperation of this world may think it’s not necessary or most important to spend time with the Lord.
Being as Mary was in Martha’s world is the most important thing.
To live as Mary in Martha’s world is to live and enjoy the Lord as Mary did.
Mary wasn’t swept off by the burdens and endless demands of society. She wasn’t trying to impress Jesus. She genuinely understood the need to be with Him.
Martha was infuriated when she saw Mary at the feet of Jesus. While Martha thought Mary should be busy with chores, Jesus saw Mary at His feet as the most important thing.
In Martha’s world, it’s all about the work you do and how you are putting in all your self-effort to succeed. In Martha’s world, activity comes first before intimacy.
Those caught up in this postmodern chaos and demands will think of being in Church for only 1hour and 30 minutes at most, or not being present at all, so that they can attend to the next work schedule. They think that being available for discipleship is a waste of time.
Like I said previously, you can be a Mary in a Martha’s world when you decide to utilise the advantage of being at the feet of Jesus.
It’s at the feet of Jesus you find true peace, total well-being, rest and refreshment.
” …Mary sat down attentively before the Master, absorbing every revelation He shared.” (Verse 39 of Luke 10)
This experience of Mary must be your daily experience while you find yourself in “a Martha’s world”.
“But Martha became exasperated by finishing the numerous household chores in preparation for her guests, so she interrupted Jesus and said, “Lord, don’t you think it’s unfair that my sister left me to do all the work by myself? You should tell her to get up and help me.” Luke 10:40 (TPT)
Martha didn’t think intimacy with the Lord was more important than the activities.
To have intimacy with the Lord is to absorb the blessings of Him and be saturated by His presence.
While intimacy with the Lord enriches your heart, activities in “Martha’s world” leave you exhausted and drained.
Pay attention to the response of Jesus to the demand of Martha (who is a replica of this postmodern world):
“The Lord answered her, “Martha, my beloved Martha. Why are you upset and troubled, pulled away by all these many distractions? Are they really that important? Mary has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.”
Luke 10:41-42 (Amplified Bible)
The control and demands of this world make you:
– distracted
– pulled away from the Lord
– live upset and troubled
Jesus called Martha, “my beloved Martha”, what a reminder!
While she was to enjoy the love of Jesus towards her as His beloved, she was drawn to being busy to impress the Lord.
As part of the things Jesus said to Martha, He asked her if the things which has taken her attention are really the most important?
This is the question you should ask yourself each day.
Don’t go through each day or live in this “Martha-like world” without making time for the most important thing — INTIMACY WITH THE LORD.
Don’t spend the entire 24 hours without making time for the most important thing. Recognise “sitting at the feet of Jesus” as a non-negotiable moment on your schedule.
Learn to spend time to have personal intimacy with the Lord and be present for corporate fellowship. Every day of your life must have hours where you yield to the Lord.

Thank you Jesus
Time at the feet of Jesus is non-negotiable. I don’t deviate from this
Thank you Lord
I prioritize my time with the Lord above all other things
I am consistent and always present for corporate fellowship!
Wow…. Being at the feet of Jesus shaft your attention from the world and it desires.
I delight in staying long at the feet of Jesus.
It is truly at the feet of Jesus we find peace, total well-being and rest. The never ending demands of society only drains and exhausts, yet whatever feeling of satisfaction they come with is temporal.
Thank you lord Jesus
