    YOUR COMMUNICATION MATTERS

“He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend”

    Proverbs 22:11 (ESV)

This is the code to walk in greatness.

It takes a man who loves the purity of heart and is gracious in speech to have the king as his friend.

The king will associate himself with the mature. And it is the direction of your thoughts and the dexterity of speech which defines your maturity.

“For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.” James 3:2 (ESV)

To be a perfect man in this context means to be a matured man. Anyone who has mastery of the tongue and knows how to speak or tame the tongue will excel in every place.

You must be intentional about how you think and also your words.  Let the Word (Wisdom) of God saturate your mind or heart and your speech.

Don’t speak as you feel, speak what is right.

Truth is not how you think, truth is how God wants you to think.

There are people whose speeches are full of ungraciousness, impoliteness, arrogance, pride, and dishonour, and will claim they are being truthful. Truth is always spoken in humility of heart and speech.

If you are truly humble at heart, you will speak with humility. If you are gracious at heart your speech will be gracious.

Your words are the description of your mindset. The mouth will speak what is in the heart.

As we looked at the Psalm 45:2:

“You are the most handsome of all. Gracious words stream from your lips. God himself has blessed you forever” (NLT)

David as a king did not use his royalty to become rude and boastful in his speech. He was gracious.

To speak graciously, also means to speak kindly and politely. It means to speak an attractive speech that is impressively articulated and fitting for the occasion.
This is not about making a faith declaration but knowing how to address situations and people through wisdom.

When you learn to speak right, you avoid unnecessary conflicts and even stagnation. Some people have lost great opportunities because of how they think and how impolite they are in speech.

Let grace be poured on your lips.

Even our Lord, Jesus, was gracious in His speech.

“Everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips. “How can this be?” they asked. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” Luke 4:22 (NLT)

Jesus at every given time had the right answers to the most difficult questions.

Beloved, let gracious words proceed out of your mouth. Let your tongue be soaked with wisdom.

“The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.” Isaiah 50:4 (ESV)

It is not only your mind which must be given to training. Your tongue must be taught to be skilled at speech.

The Lord through His Word and the voice of the Holy Spirit teaches you to speak before kings.

The Lord said to Moses, “Now go! I will help you as you speak, and I will teach you what to say” (Exodus 4:12)

Your communication (speech or writing) skills will enable you to harness relationships and accomplish success.

    Think right, and speak graciously.

This is how you steer your life to glorious accomplishments.

    Hallelujah!!!

    TWO CRUCIAL RUDDER 7

“He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend”

    Proverbs 22:11 (ESV)

This is the code to walk in greatness.

To steer your life to the highest level of greatness, you must be conscious of how you steer these two crucial rudder:

    – THE MIND or HEART

    – AND THE TONGUE

It takes a man who loves the purity of heart and is gracious in speech to have the king as his friend.

The king will associate himself with the mature. And it is the direction of your thoughts and the dexterity of speech which defines your maturity.

    TWO CRUCIAL RUDDERS 6

“In the same way, the tongue is a small part of the body, yet it can boast of great achievements. A huge forest can be set on fire by a little flame”

    James 3:5 (International Standard Version)

The evidence of your thoughts is in your words.

No one knew what was on the mind of God until He gave His word. The word of God brings us into the understanding of His thoughts.

The mouth will speak “out of” the abundance of the heart. When you want your thoughts to be understood, you must exercise the maturity of speaking.

How you speak is also proof of your maturity. Anyone who has mastery of the tongue and knows how to speak or tame the tongue will excel in every place.

Many destinies have been crushed because of the tongue. The utterances of the tongue can cause you to advance or to become stagnant.

The tongue is like a little spark of flame which can set a huge forest on fire. It is like the rudder which directs a huge ship towards a destination.

You must become intentional about your words. To speak the mind of God you must learn to speak His word.

God said to Joshua, “Let the words from the book of the law be always on your lips…” Joshua 1:8 (VOICE)

This is not merely about “Talking Positive”, this is mainly about Speaking the Word of God. The Word of God is more than being positive. The Word of God is being creative.

The Word of God creates. The universe was created, framed, repaired, properly and perfectly joined together by the Word of God.

Your life will only head towards God’s designed destination when you master the wisdom to speak God’s inspired Word.

Don’t speak your fear, worry or anxiety, doubt, limitation, failures and disappointments.

Speak that which is pure, true, honorable, worthy of note and glorious.

When you learn to meditate on the Word of God you will definitely speak forth the Word.

The meditation of your heart and the words of your mouth must be consistent with the mind of God.

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14)

Words that are consistent with the thoughts of God and are acceptable by God, cause the Lord’s blessings to increase in your life.

“You are the most handsome of all. Gracious words stream from your lips. God himself has blessed you forever” Psalm 45:2 (NLT)

This is a poetic Psalm written to celebrate David the King. This Psalm unveils the skillfulness of David through words.
The King’s gracious words contribute to how he was endued with blessings.

He always knew what to say to the Lord and the people he led.

To speak graciously also means to speak kindly and politely.

This is not about making a faith declaration but knowing how to address situations and people through wisdom.

Some people are always overwhelmed by conflicts because of the utterances they make.

Such must practice the habit of speaking graciously. This means to speak an attractive speech that is impressively articulated and fitting for the occasion.

Until you consistently have a genuine testimony that your words at every given time are full of grace and excellence, you have not yet matured.

Let grace be poured on your lips.

    Hallelujah!

    TWO CRUCIAL RUDDERS 5

“A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds”

    James 3:4 (Amplified Bible)

One of the core things you should understand from our previous discussion is that:

THE DIRECTION OF YOUR LIFE IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY STEERED TOWARDS THE DESTINATION DETERMINED BY GOD.

To steer your life towards God’s designed or determined destination you must intentionally take charge of the rudder of your life.

Just as a ship wouldn’t automatically move towards its destination, but must be skillfully steered, so is your life.

When you don’t take charge of the rudder to skillfully steer your life, you may move in the wrong direction and also may shipwreck your life-ship.

Everyone’s life is steered by these Two Crucial Rudders:

    1. THE MIND and Heart (I have explained how the mind functions as a rudder, and how you have to direct it)

    2. The second crucial rudder we have to take a look at is the TONGUE.

“Horses have bits and bridles in their mouths so that we can control and guide their large body. And the same with mighty ships, though they are massive and driven by fierce winds, yet they are steered by a tiny rudder at the direction of the person at the helm.
And so the tongue is a small part of the body yet it carries great power! Just think of how a small flame can set a huge forest ablaze. And the tongue is a fire! It can be compared to the sum total of wickedness and is the most dangerous part of our human body. It corrupts the entire body and is a hellish flame! It releases a fire that can burn throughout the course of human existence.”
    James 3:3-7 (TPT)

The direction of your life is not only steered by your mind but also by your tongue.

The words you speak determine how glorious your life becomes. Don’t just talk; let your words be consistent with the Word of God.

Since you now know the tongue is also a rudder, you must understand that, whenever you speak, you are steering your life towards success or defeat.

“If those who claim devotion to God don’t control what they say, they mislead themselves. Their devotion is worthless” James 1:26 (CEB).

You may have the right mindset, and a good heart, however, if your words are not consistent with the genuineness of your thoughts, then your thoughts are not your conviction and consciousness.

The World English Bible says, “…your mouth exposes your heart…” (James 1:26).

Your words must be consistent with the direction of your mind.

    Beloved bridle your tongue!

    Hallelujah!

    WE PRAY
We pray that we will have mastery over our tongue to communicate the thoughts of God at all times, no matter the situation at hand.
