YOU ARE A CHILD OF OBEDIENCE

“so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.”

    2 Corinthians 2:11 (ESV)

Disobedience to God is not automatic. One demonstrates disobedience when doubt, disbelief, and deception have fully germinated.

The adversary contributes to your disobedience through deception. He knows your disobedience will distract you from manifesting God’s glory.

To disobey is to act outside the faith. Obedience is to hear under faith. When one obeys God’s word, it is an act of faith. Obedience to God is proof of honour.

The adversary knows when you walk in disobedience you will walk outside the will of God for your life.

Men don’t always attribute their disobedience to God as anything wrong or evil. And even some acts of disobedience to God in some contexts may seem to be a good thing in others.

It may be something all men celebrate or will applaud you for, but it will be disobedience to God.

King Saul’s decision to disobey the Lord’s instruction on how to handle the battle with the Amalekites cost him his throne. He was a man after His own desires, but not the counsel of the Lord. He decided to keep the animals which were to be destroyed as spoils of war and for sacrificial offerings.

He even spared the life of King Agag as a showcase of his victory. But that wasn’t what God wanted. Even though, in the natural and religious sense, it looks like Saul did the right thing. Because offering sacrifices to the Lord was the right thing to do. But God’s response through Prophet Samuel wasn’t what Saul expected:

    “But Samuel replied,
“What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshipping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.” 1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NLT)

Saul did what he did to satisfy his own interest. But that was a demonstration of ego and arrogance.

Always see your obedience to God, as an act of faith.

Saul (Paul the Apostle), acted differently with the Lord’s instruction. He said, “Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision” Acts 26:19 (KJV).

This was his response to the instructions he received from the Lord Jesus as he encountered Him on his way to Damascus to persecute the believers.

When you were born again, you came into the obedience of faith. Christ’s obedience became your obedience. And you were supplied with the ability of God to continue in the reality of His obedience. To obey the Lord is no longer mechanical but organic because God works in you both to will and to do (Philippians 2:13).

As a born-again, you don’t live under the rule of the devil. You are not his servant. Therefore, you don’t yield and obey his voice. You are no longer part of the children of disobedience.

It is the unsaved who is referred to as the son of disobedience.

“in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience” Ephesians 2:2 (NKJV)

You are now an obedient child of God because of Jesus Christ’s obedience.

Look at what Peter the Apostle  said:

“As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance” 1 Peter 1:14 (ESV).

Don’t believe in the deception of the devil that you are not an obedient child of God.

The spirit of disobedience doesn’t have any authority over you. You are an obedient child of God and have the capacity to respond rightly to the Lord’s instructions.

    FRUIT OF GENEROSITY 4

“I mention this not because I’m requesting a gift, but so that the fruit of your generosity may bring you an abundant reward”

    Philippians 4:17 (TPT)

There are people who don’t understand the benefit of giving in the New Testament, and others assume giving has no benefits.

If you have followed our conversation so far, you will have clarity of heart concerning giving.

Your giving is not a help you give to God; it is God giving you the opportunity to demonstrate effective stewardship and a partaker of His Kingdom agenda.

From the previous episode, these are some benefits or profits of generosity:

Your Generosity Leads to the Increase of Resources.

The Love for God and His Kingdom is deepened In Your Heart.

This love for God and His Kingdom:

    – Makes you live above yourself

Giving makes you fully circumcise the self. You don’t become stingy. A stingy heart shrinks and soon becomes empty. However, a giving heart is happier and attracts many.

Another thing giving does to your heart is that it produces contentment in your heart.

You will not die or become a slave to anything you have been able to give. Giving trains your heart to value impact above acquisition. This is what makes you have mastery over things.
Anything you cannot give out has dominion over you.

Those who find it difficult to give esteem to their acquisition above the transformation of others.

Selflessness leads to contentment. Most people who are not content are selfish. They want everything to keep.

Paul the apostle said, “Godliness with Contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6)

When you learn to share or give what you have, it crushes every sense of greediness and envy in you.

Anything you can submit to God doesn’t control your heart.

A rich man came to Jesus and asked, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.” (Here he was pointing him to His Divinity). Jesus continued by answering his question, saying, “But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

The rich man said to Jesus, “Which ones?”

Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ ‘Honour your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ ”

The young man said to Jesus, “All these things I have kept from my youth.

     What do I still lack?”

Now the young was claiming righteousness by his self efforts. He was to turn to Jesus for Life instead of exercising confidence in his own works.

However, this is the main matter:

Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.” (See Matthew 19:16-22)

This is interesting, the young man couldn’t obey even the first commandment:

“You shall have no other gods before Me.”

This commandment tells us to put God first. And the young rich man couldn’t put God first. He esteemed his possession, than eternal life.

Which litmus test did Jesus use?

    GIVING!

Get this: giving proves the condition of the heart.

Remember Abraham, God gave him Isaac and still asked him to sacrifice him.  What was the goal?

To prove the faith of Abraham.

Has God instructed you to give? Understand that He is giving you the opportunity to demonstrate how you ESTEEM HIM above your possession.

    FRUIT OF GENEROSITY 3

“I mention this not because I’m requesting a gift, but so that the fruit of your generosity may bring you an abundant reward”

    Philippians 4:17 (TPT)

Though your generosity blesses lives, it is also to your advantage. The fruit of your generosity brings reward to you.

Whenever you are asked to give or there is a conversation about your generosity, don’t just think it’s because your gift is needed. See the opportunity to receive a bountiful supply.

Let this sink deep in your heart, generosity or giving into God’s Kingdom is not something God demands from us. Giving or generosity is something God wants for us.

The giver benefits far more than the receiver.

“I’ve left you an example of how you should serve and take care of those who are weak. For we must always cherish the words of our Lord Jesus, who taught, ‘Giving brings a far greater blessing than receiving.” Acts 20:35 (TPT)

From the previous episode, we addressed one of the rewards of the generosity of the saints:

    – Your Generosity Leads to the Increase of Resources

Another benefit or profit of generosity is:

    – The Love for God and His Kingdom is deepened in Your Heart

This is the great growth of the saint.

Generosity doesn’t only give you the opportunity to participate in the spread and impact of the gospel.
Giving into the spread of the Gospel or the work of the ministry imparts and transforms your heart.
As I previously mentioned, whatever the Lord inspires you to do for the advancement of His Kingdom builds and enriches your heart.

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21).

When you genuinely give towards the Lord’s Kingdom, you become more interested in things which pertain to God.

Your desire and affection gravitate towards the Lord more and more.

You always want to see the Kingdom win. This love for God and His Kingdom:

    – Makes you live above yourself.
Giving makes you fully circumcise the self. You don’t become stingy. A stingy heart shrinks and soon becomes empty. However, a giving heart is happier and attracts many. The little boy who gave his five loaves and two fish is talked about even to this day. Can you imagine the impact of 5000 people being fed because you gave your small lunch pack?

Just think about the joy and fulfillment which shall well up in your heart?

The little boy could have kept his lunch for himself and wouldn’t have been a part of this great miracle.

The moment he entrusted his little food to the hands of Jesus, it fed 5,000 people, and there was excess (12 extra baskets). What a joy!
Thinking about you and yourself doesn’t bless many lives.
Think about it again, do you think this boy will withhold his hand from being generous?

    Certainly not!

Definitely, what he witnessed will cause a transformation in his heart.
The impact of his generosity will stir up more love for God and His Kingdom.

Giving is not according to the condition of your bank account, but the condition of your heart.

There are people who cannot give into any Kingdom assignment but can easily spend millions (in a year) on tickets for a football match.

There are many whose love for God has become cold because they have not exercised themselves in generosity towards the Lord’s Kingdom.

The more you give unto the Lord, the more your love is deepened.

Giving is a continuous demonstration of love for God.

Enjoy more and more grace to give more and more into the spread of the gospel.

    Shalom Aleichem.

    FRUIT OF GENEROSITY 2

“I mention this not because I’m requesting a gift, but so that the fruit of your generosity may bring you an abundant reward”

    Philippians 4:17 (TPT)

The generosity of the saints or giving of the saints towards God’s Kingdom mission is an opportunity God gives to the saints to demonstrate their love towards His Kingdom.

Giving into the spread of the Gospel or the work of the ministry imparts your heart and gives you the opportunity to participate in the impact of the gospel.

Whatever the Lord inspires you to do for the advancement of His Kingdom, builds and enrich your heart.

There is a reward or profit which abounds for you because of your generosity.

This is part of the reasons your giving is an opportunity or privilege.

In this series, we will look into some of the benefits of giving (or the generosity of the saints), without following any order of importance.

Your Generosity Leads to the Increase of Resources.

Read Philippians 4:17 from the GOOD WORD Translation:

“It’s not that I’m looking for a gift. The opposite is true. I’m looking for your resources to increase.”

Though your generosity blesses lives, it is also to your advantage. The fruit of your generosity brings reward to you.

Whenever you are asked to give or whenever there is a conversation about your generosity, don’t just think it’s because your gift is needed.

See the opportunity to receive a bountiful supply.

This was the situation with the Church in Philippi. They saw their giving to the ministry of Paul as an opportunity.

Paul didn’t just appreciate their giving; his heart was filled with joy and was greatly satisfied by their giving.

My heart overflows with joy when I think of how you showed your love to me by your financial support of my ministry. For even though you have so little, you still continue to help me at every opportunity. I’m not telling you this because I’m in need, for I have learned to be satisfied in any circumstance” Philippians 4:10-11 (TPT)

These saints didn’t give just because they had an abundance of resources. But even with the little they had, they were determined to give bountifully.

Paul again wrote on this to the Church in Corinth concerning the Churches in Macedonia (which includes Phillipi, Thessalonica, Berea and etc). Philippi is a prominent city in Macedonia. This means, when Paul wrote about the generosity of the saints in Macedonia, he was also talking about the Philippians.

“Beloved ones, we must tell you about the grace God poured out upon the churches of Macedonia. For even during a season of severe difficulty and tremendous suffering, they became even more filled with joy. From the depths of their extreme poverty, super-abundant joy overflowed into an act of extravagant generosity. For I can verify that they spontaneously gave, not only according to their means but far beyond what they could afford.” 2 Corinthians 8:1-3 (Amplified Bible).

These Macedonians love the Lord so much that they were not hindered by the outward limitations but took advantage of the grace of God to give by conviction.

No wonder Paul the apostle desired for their resources to increase. It is not just Paul who had this desire; it is a Kingdom principle:

“He that is faithful in little, is faithful in much” (Luke 16:10)

You are entrusted with more when you demonstrate faithful stewardship in the little things.

When you receive more, you increase your giving capacity. And the more you give, the more you enjoy the increase of generosity.

“Now [remember] this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows generously [that blessings may come to others] will also reap generously [and be blessed].” 2 Corinthians 9:6 (Amplified Bible)

There are some who conclude that the increase of resources or the fruit of generosity is only in the supply of grace.

However, it is important to know that the supply of grace is not only an inward capacity; it is also:

    – Every favour and earthly blessing.
Earthly blessing is the outward manifestation (material resources produced) of the inward blessings. Though ministry is spiritual, it requires material resources to execute its workings.

“And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 (Amplified Bible)

    – More enrichment to have more to give.
You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous, and this [generosity, administered] through us is producing thanksgiving to God [from those who benefit” 2 Corinthians 9:11 (Amplified Bible)

Learn to take advantage of every giving opportunity to demonstrate love towards the Lord and to increase in more and more grace.

Every giving is a demonstration of your faithfulness towards the spread and advancement of the gospel.

Don’t receive the grace of God in vain. Be like the Macedonians who took advantage of the giving-grace to support the ministry of Paul.

TRAIN YOUR MIND TO SEE THE RIGHT RESULTS

“And the LORD said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.”

    Joshua 6:2 (NKJV)

To fulfill ministry and accomplish great things may seem to be challenging. Others are sometimes discouraged by the magnitude of the task.

God doesn’t just want you to move into action.

Accomplishing great things for the Lord doesn’t just come from trying to do something.
You must have the right vision if you want to accomplish your task or hit your target.

Your ability to do more begins with what you see and how you see what you see.

Oftentimes, the Lord charges His people to see.

This is because you cannot experience what you have not seen with your heart or the spirit of your mind.

To take over a city or win a town for Jesus through the gospel, you must first SEE!

You cannot transform lives and bless your school, institution, or workplace until you see with the spirit of your mind.

You must see your healing testimony. You must see the growth of your business. You must see your new level of impact.

Look at what God said to Joshua:

“And the LORD said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.” Joshua 6:2 (NKJV).

This was a charge to Joshua to activate the power of his imagination.

    Your imagination influences your possessions.

This was the same thing God said to Abraham and Moses:

“I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession.” Genesis 13:15 (NLT).

    Oh, glory!

Abraham’s possession was dependent on His vision. If Abraham had seen just a small portion, that was what he would have had. If Abraham had seen the whole world, that was what He was going to have.

“See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—to give to them and their descendants after them.” Deuteronomy 1:8 (NKJV)

Beloved, which results are you seeing now?

These are not some words of encouragement. I am talking to you about a divine principle that works. You cannot accomplish anything beyond what you have SEEN.

Jesus said, “…lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.” John 4:35

Train your mind to see the right results.

When you begin to see images you don’t want, shift your mind from them and redirect your imagination to the glorious pictures and results the Lord has deposited in your spirit.

This is why you must study the Word and pray in tongues. When you pray, the Lord shows you visions. He unveils to your heart great and mighty things (Jeremiah 33:3)

FRUIT OF GENEROSITY 1 — INTRODUCTION

“I mention this not because I’m requesting a gift, but so that the fruit of your generosity may bring you an abundant reward”

    Philippians 4:17 (TPT)

Some saints within the Church easily frown at every conversation which has to do with giving or generosity towards the spread of the gospel. These are untrained men.

Some don’t want any conversation about giving or the generosity of the saints because they feel they don’t have the resources to give. But that is a mere demonstration of immaturity or lack of understanding.

Others refuse to give because they assume their giving makes the Church leaders rich. These people don’t know the cost of the spread of the gospel.

Especially in today’s world, the resources needed to spread the gospel are more costly.

When a Church or a ministry desires to massively spread the gospel, they will need to massively commit their resources, because it will cost more. But what is more costly than the blood of Jesus? To reach every soul and to effectively disciple every saint, we must be willing to commit more resources.

Nothing about the spread of the gospel comes cheap; from the time needed, the cost of venue, setting up the meeting place according to the requirements of the government, dealing with harsh weather conditions, equipment, supporting the needs of the saints, paying bills and etc, will not come cheap.

The generosity of the saints or giving of the saints towards God’s Kingdom mission is an opportunity God gives to the saints to demonstrate their love towards His Kingdom.

Every saint in Christ must take advantage of such an opportunity to demonstrate their participation and love in God’s Kingdom.

The generosity of the saints is the joyful sharing of their treasures (valuable resources) for the advancement of the gospel.

The beautiful thing about God’s wisdom in this is that, as you give generously towards the Lord’s work, your love towards the success of His work is deepened.

“for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.” Matthew 6:21 (Amplified Bible)

This then means, generosity is not what God demands or wants from you. Generosity is what God wants for you.

God is not in need of money. He only wants faithful stewards. He wants men He can trust more and more with His Kingdom resources. Men who will not receive His grace in vain but will faithfully serve His purpose with His grace.

This is why, concerning the generosity of the saints, Paul the apostle doesn’t address God’s need but first points out the grace God wants to supply.

Your generosity is first for your benefit. And you must see it as a privilege whenever you have the opportunity to give.

When people think about generosity in the gospel, they first think of it as a means to “increase money” as though it’s another form of lottery.

There are fruits which abound towards you. And since there are fruits of generosity, it means there is a principle of multiplication. However, these fruits of multiplication of generosity transcend the idea of coming with little money and taking more money home.

There are greater fruits which abound towards you because of your generosity.

From the opening verse, you will find that the fruit of generosity brings you abundant reward.

These are the things we will explore further as we continue this conversation.

Your giving doesn’t make God rich. Get this: God’s blessings make you rich. The giving by God’s people is the means by which God executes His kingdom mandate and dispenses His abundance.

After David and His people had given towards His work, He said to the LORD, “But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” 1 Chronicles 29:14 (ESV)

You don’t give into God’s work to complete God. You give into God’s work as a demonstration of faithfulness towards Him.

    Do you love the Lord?

Are you interested in the expansion of the Kingdom?
Are you interested in the growth of the saints?
Demonstrate your love through your generosity?

The LORD has given you grace.

    Shalom!
