The Intimacy of Jesus’ Love 2 (God’s Love Language 10)

“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23

God made us to have a relationship with us. God didn’t create us because He wants someone to control. He made us, for Him to have a FAMILY.

This is why God didn’t make us to be robots. He gave us a mind so we can have the ability to think, a will to have the power to make choices, and emotions to have the ability to be affectionate. By this, man can make the choice to be dependent or independent of God.

God’s original design and intention, His relationship with man was to be governed by His love-life.

God is Spirit (John 4:24), therefore, He gave man spirit (Zechariah 12:1), so that man can connect and can have deep relationship with Him.

Beloved, God’s relationship with you is not just an outward show.
Your deepest relationship with God begins from your inner man.

Therefore, God’s goal of intimacy begins with working Himself into your heart. God’s love affair with you, begins with having a mingled life with you.

God’s deepest expression of love doesn’t work in isolation. God’s deepest expression of love works by indwelling you.

This why He sent the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is God being processed into us.

God, as big as He is, could not indwell us, until He was processed into us through His Spirit.

See Titus 3:5 (The Passion Translation)

“When the extraordinary compassion of God our Savior and his overpowering love suddenly appeared in person, as the brightness of a dawning day, He came to save us.
Not because of any virtuous deed that we have done, but only because of his extravagant mercy.
He saved us, resurrecting us through the washing of rebirth.
We are made completely new by the Holy Spirit”

This briefly explains how God worked Himself into us.

By Christ’s death we were cleansed, justified and made Holy. Now the Holy Spirit indwelt us to bring us into the newness of life, where we are now able to relate with God in a deeper way.

Jesus is the embodiment or the appearance and experience of the extraordinary compassion of God our Savior and his overpowering love.

Your believe and delight in the Lord Jesus is a response of your love to Him. This response of love to Jesus made you become the gravitational focus for the indwelling of God.

And the more you continue in delighting in the Lord, the richer your relationship with Him becomes as He now dwells in your heart through the Spirit.

Let this mind be in you, from the day you believed and received Jesus, you became the dwelling place of the Father through the Holy Spirit.

When you received the Holy Spirit, God came to make His home in you.

Make the most of this intimate relationship by continuously keeping His Word or delighting in the Lord Jesus.

“Those who truly love me are those who obey my commands. Whoever passionately loves me will be passionately loved by my Father. And I will passionately love you in return and will manifest my life within you.”
    John 14:21 (TPT)

The Intimacy of Jesus’ Love (God’s Love Language 9)

“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23

Understand that, your love for Jesus is an outflow of His love for you.
We have looked more into this by establishing that, your love for Jesus is not an unconditional love. However, your love for Jesus is according to the condition of His love.
To love Jesus is to delight in Him (Read Loving Jesus 2). To love Jesus is for Him to be your craving, your desire and pleasure.
This is how you keep His commandments or words; by essentially desiring the Lord.
The one who craves, desires, highly esteems, treasures, values and is awe-struck by the Lord is the one who believes in the Lord. To believe the Lord is to totally trust or entrust and commit yourself unto Him. It is to accept and receive Him as who He says He is.
Jesus used the word “believe” about 85 times in the Gospel of John. And about 5 times in only John chapter 14.
John 14:12, He said “Verily, Verily, I say to you, he who believes in Me…”
The expression verily, verily denotes “Most Assuredly” or a strong certainty.
Your believe in the Lord Jesus is an important response of your love to Him.
Contextually, to believe in the Lord is also essential in keeping His commandments or His words.
This makes you have a special relationship with the Lord.
Yes, “for God so loved the world…” however, it is only those who BELIEVE IN HIM, “SHOULD HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE”. (See John 3:16).
To believe in the Lord is also to RECEIVE the Lord.
Those who did not receive Him were “unbelievers”. (John 1:11-12).
Though the Lord loves all men, He only has a special intimate relationship with those who have believed or received Him.
And three times in John 14, Jesus affirmed the results of keeping (treasuring, valuing, esteeming, believing, receiving, craving and desiring) His words:
    a. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. John 14:15-16
    b. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” John 14:21
    c. “Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and *My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23
Now there are three key expressions in these points:
    – He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.
-Will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.
    – My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
Now these three key expressions are not separated in reality; they all point to the same matter – DEEP INTIMACY OF LOVE.
See this, to receive the Helper who will abide with you forever is to receive the person of the Holy Spirit.
To be loved by the Father and the Lord even more, whereas they manifest themselves to you, is the work of the Holy Spirit.
And they being in you to make their home in you, is the inward family relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Each of these three expressions, which are the Lord’s promise to keeping or delighting in His word, points us to a DEEP INTIMACY WITH GOD through the Holy Spirit.
For God to manifest Himself, is to demystify Himself or to strip Himself naked before us. One strips his heart, deep thoughts, emotions and even body naked only in a deep intimate relationship with the other.
The Holy Spirit indwells in the one who has received the Lord.
Now through your new birth experience you received the Holy Spirit, however, the more you delight yourself in the Lord, the deeper you become intimate with Him. The more you set your affection on the Lord, the more He manifests Himself to you.
Beloved, grow in the intimacy of the Love of Christ.

“The “Commandments” of Jesus (God’s Love Language 8)

“The one having My commandments and keeping them, he is the one loving Me. Now the one loving Me will be loved by My Father. And I will love him, and will show Myself to him.”
    John 14:21 (Berean Literal Bible)

John chapter 13 all through to chapter 17; have heartfelt thoughts of Jesus.
He gave them household instructions, to guide them. He explained things that will bring them into deep intimacy with Him. He affirmed at different times, the promise of the Holy Spirit and the work of the Spirit.

We saw from previous teaching that, the commandments of Jesus are:

    • -authoritative prescription; thus, whatever He tells you to do, helps and provides you with a specific enablement and solution. Now get this, the authority of Jesus, is not to issue demanding orders. The authority of Jesus is to supply you with ability and directives, unto a designed purpose of God. (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 1:22)
    1. -the commandments of Jesus are not burdensome. (1John 5:3).
    2. -His commandments which are His words are spirit and life. (John 6:63). His commandments infused into you the ability of the spirit-life.
    3. -His commandments or words are designed to produce joy in you (John 15:11).
    4. -the commandments of the Lord are His household instructions. They are not for the world; they are for those who belong to Him. Those who are part of the special household.
And the truth is, the commandments of the Lord cannot be received and kept by the world. They are kept by those who are loved by Him.
Remember, to keep His commandments is a product of His love in you. His love empowers you to keep His commandments. Thus, those who have not received Him, don’t have His love and cannot keep His commandments.

Jesus replied, “Loving me empowers you to obey my word. And my Father will love you so deeply that we will come to you and make you our dwelling place.” John 14:23 (The Passion Translation)

Now, all through the Gospel of John, we see Jesus giving out certain commandments.
He commanded the disciples; He commanded the sick and even the dead.
Jesus commanded His disciples to “receive”, to “ask”, to “believe”, to “abide” and even commanded them not to let their heart be troubled.
He also commanded Peter to “Feed His flock”.
Understand that Jesus’ commandments are His words. I have already established this with you.
Interestingly, He commanded Lazarus to come out.
He commanded the cripple to rise.
He commanded the offender to go and sin no more.
He commanded, His disciples to do the works that He they saw Him do and even greater.
He commanded them to love as He has loved.
For the things Jesus said, His audience never saw it as impossible things to do. This was because His words were the empowering ability they needed to do.
The cripple couldn’t walk, but when He asked the cripple to walk, those words generated fresh power and strength in his limps.
Lazarus (who was dead) came back to life, by the words of Jesus.
This clearly drives the reality home; that the commandments of Jesus are designed skillfully by Him, to empower you and not to burden you with a yoke of bondage.
    His commandments makes you become.

    LOVING JESUS 2 (God’s Love Language 7)

‘Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him’ John 14:23 (NKJV)

Jesus reveals in the opening verse the results of loving Him.

Keeping (obeying or doing) His word is a product or the results of the love of Christ in you.
You cannot keep His word without His love.

And the Lord Jesus is all perfect and glorious that you love Him by taking delight in Him.

We saw how the Father loved His Son by delighting in Him. Even the Father loved Him by being well pleased in Him. (Luke 3:22; Matthew 17:5).

Essentially, to love Jesus is to delight in Him.

As I said previously, Jesus is so perfect you can only love Him by delighting or being pleased in Him. As you delight and enjoy the Lord Jesus, His words will only be a treasure of life and hope for your living.

Keeping His Words will not be a list of rules to anxiously obey.

It will be Life to you.

Himself said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are lif* ” John 6:63 (NKJV)

Whatever Jesus said to those He specially loved, are to produce life and joy in them.
Speaking to His disciples, at the eve of His departure He affirmed, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” John 15:11 (NKJV).

Now this was also said after He spoke again about, “If you keep my commandments…” (John 15:10).

Now the Lord must be your delight as His love is in You. For the Lord to be your delight means, He must be your craving and pleasure. Your satisfaction must be the Lord. To love the Lord is to value, be awe-struck, overwhelmed, enjoy and highly esteem Him above all things.

To love the Lord is for Him to be your desire.

When you love the Lord, you will not desire the world.
You will not crave for the praise of men. Your emotions will gravitate towards the Lord and what He loves.

“I write these things to you, dear children, because you truly have a relationship with the Father. I write these things, fathers and mothers, because you have had a true relationship with him who is from the beginning. And I write these things, young people, because you are strong, the Word of God is treasured in your hearts, and you have defeated the Evil One. Don’t set the affections of your heart on this world or in loving the things of the world. The love of the Father and the love of the world are incompatible. For all that the world can offer us—the gratification of our flesh, the allurement of the things of the world, and the obsession with status and importance—none of these things come from the Father but from the world. This world and its desires are in the process of passing away, but those who love to do the will of God live forever. “ 1 John 2:14-17

LOVING JESUS (God’s Love Language 6)

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him’ John 14:23 (NKJV)

From John chapter 13 all through to chapter 17, marks Jesus’ last conversation with His disciples before His arrest.

The things He shared with them were deep heartfelt thoughts.
These conversations and teachings of Jesus were so crucial because, they were full of rich realities which will sustain them and usher them into a deeper walk with Him.

Our walk with Jesus is a walk of intimacy.

When Jesus said, “If you love me you will keep my commandments” (John 14:16)

He wasn’t placing an exhaustive burdensome demand on us.

He was actually sharing how those who love Him will respond to Him. Period!

And take note: Those who love Him, are those who are loved by Him.

Keeping His commandments is not what brings you into His love.

Instead, because you love Him, you keep His commandments.

That is why I shared with you previously that, to keep the commandment of Jesus is a product or result of His love in you.

And again, your love for Jesus is not as unconditional as His love for you; because His love is the condition of your love.

Your love for Jesus is programmed by His love.

Jesus has no imperfections. He has no weakness, He has no sin and makes no mistakes. He is the meaning of excellence and beauty. When you behold Him, you see the true meaning of holiness, perfection, love, power, honor and glory.

You will only love Him and enjoy Him as you behold Him.

When you see Him, you will only see His love for you and for all men.

You will not see burdensome rules and regulations. You will see His outstretched arm of love.

When John the Baptist saw Jesus, He beheld the greatest act of love in the universe.
He said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

“…God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

    Oh glory to God!

Jesus’ death is the demonstration of God’s greatest love. (See also John 3:16).

So how do you love Jesus?

Now get this, you keep (do or obey) His words or commandments, by delighting in Him.

The scriptures reveal that the Father loves the Son (John 3:35)

Now look at how the Father explains His love for the Son:

Two times in scriptures (both at the baptism of Jesus and His Transfiguration experience), we see the Father revealing how He loves His Son:

“And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “ You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22 (NKJV)

“While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said,This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” Matthew 17:5

This is the way to love the Son; He is so perfect you only delight or be pleased in Him.

Beloved, as you delight and enjoy the Lord Jesus, His words will only be a treasure of life and hope for your living.

GOD’S LOVE LANGUAGE 5 (The Root of the Matter)

‘Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him‘ John 14:23 (NKJV)

In this discussion I revealed that, God, made you to receive His love and to express His love.

Thus, just as you are loved by God, you are also to love the Lord.
Nevertheless, your love for God is not as unconditional as His love for you.

This is because, God’s love is the condition of your love.

And there is no way your love for God will be unconditional, because God has no imperfection. He is all perfect and glorious.

So your understanding of God’s love language, must be on the premise of His love expressed towards you.

“To Keep His commandments” is an expression or a product of the love of God in you.

Four times in the same Chapter Jesus mentioned “Keeping His commandment or Word” as His love language.

Verse 15: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

Verse 21: “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.”

Verse 23: “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word.”

Verse 24: “Whoever does not love me does not keep my words.”

Again, from these four verses, you see that, the commandments you are to keep, are not some lists of rules and regulations. Neither are they the Ten Commandments.

The commandments you are to keep are the Words of Jesus to you (who is loved by Him).

And we have seen that His commandments are not burdensome (we will look more into His commandments).

Now all through the four verses above, you find the word LOVE (You love me; who loves me; anyone loves me; and love me…)

Understand that the root of your love is the Lord.

For whoever, or anyone that loves the Lord is first LOVED BY HIM. (See 1 John 4:19)

In other words, God’s love is the harbinger and the enablement of your Love.

Therefore, those outside Christ cannot love the Lord. They cannot keep His commandments or words. Because to keep His Word is a unique, personal, intimate, affectionate, caring, and committed responds of God’s love, that belongs only to those who are loved specially by Jesus.

Beloved, this is an exciting journey, stay glued as we answer the questions:

    DECLARE THESE WORDS:

The Lord is the root of my love. I grow deeper into His love. Nothing can shake the foundation of my love. I grow more and more in my understanding of God’s love.

    Hallelujah!!!
