    DON’T WATER DOWN THE GOSPEL

“For unlike so many, we are not peddlers of God’s Word who water down the message. We are those sent from God with pure motives, who speak in the sight of God from our union with Christ.”

    2 Corinthians 2:17 (TPT)

The gospel is the goodnews of Jesus. In the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus, there are no two gospels; the gospel is one.

There is no goodnews in the universe which is as good as the glorious news of Jesus.

The gospel of our Lord Jesus is the consistent revelation of God in Christ Jesus.

It is the declaration of the supply of God’s love and demonstration of His graciousness.

The gospel unveils how God has justified all who received Jesus and has made them righteous in Christ. It is the communication of God’s eternal forgiveness.

The gospel says, you are not saved by your works or self-efforts. But you are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus.

“For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him. Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious gift from God that brought us to Christ! So no one will ever be able to boast, for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (TPT)

To preach that we are saved by grace, however, we need our works to preserve our salvation, is to water down the good news of Jesus.

The moment the security of our salvation is preached on the grounds of our self-efforts, we should know that the Gospel is peddled.

Peddlers of the gospel portray God’s love demonstrated on the condition of our good self-efforts.

But that is not what the love of God is; the love of God is unconditional.

Jesus did not die for you because you were righteous. He died for all men when we were yet sinners.

The only price which was paid for the salvation of men was the blood of Jesus. Though salvation is not cheap, God has freely made it available for us through Christ Jesus.

To preach the gospel for self-gain or selfish interest is to peddle or water down the gospel of Jesus.

That which the Lord has done is complete!

It does not need additives or your sentiments to make it whole.

Jesus did a finished work through His death and resurrection.

When your goal of preaching the gospel is also to enrich your selfish ambition, you may have to preach a mixed gospel which also another gospel.

When you preach the gospel of Jesus, people will focus on the Lord and not on the preacher.

Don’t water down what the Lord has accomplished because of how you feel.

    Selah.

    …BY THE LOVE OF CHRIST

“Instead, by speaking the truth in a spirit of love, we must grow up in every way to Christ, who is the head.

    Ephesians 4:15 (GNT)

    Your growth determines your manifestation.

You are able to handle situations and impact your world according to your inward growth.
Your growth in your understanding of Christ and consciousness of who you are in Him is your growth in the Spirit.
It is your growth into Christ (in all things, mainly His love) by which you become the complete expression of Him in this world.

You cannot express Christ beyond your level of maturity of growth in the spirit.

The highest proof of your growth or maturity in the Spirit is how you walk in Love.

Your love towards God and towards others reveals how you are deeply rooted in Christ. The more your roots grow deep into the love of Christ, the more you mature or grow in the Spirit.
You can be born again for 10 years and not be mature.
Growing in the Spirit is not automatic, it is intentional.
Organisms don’t just grow healthy. It takes the right nutrients and the supply of other needful elements.

Your mind and heart must be cultivated in the love of God.
One who is growing in the spirit has his/her affection set on the Lord and not on his/her own interests. The love of God dominates your heart and influences your actions.

How consistently do you fellowship with the Spirit and the Word?

Or you must be convinced to have a consistent fellowship with the Spirit and the Word?

How excited are you in your heart concerning the things of God?

How do you love the brethren?
Are you bitter, envious, angry and holding on to an offense?

When you are deeply rooted in the love of God,  bitterness, envy and offenses cannot have any place in your heart (because they are fruits or expressions of the self).
The more you grow or mature in the Lord, the more the self is subdued by the love of Christ.

Every single contribution is important and needful unto satisfying God’s dream.
We leave no stone unturned. We take advantage of this Holy Spirit-inspired and directed ability within us to set the divine course for many.

There are certain people; if we don’t step out, they won’t be reached out to, and the Lord will demand their blood from us.

“If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.” Ezekiel 3:18 (ESV)

We will not sit to watch a generation be destroyed.

Until YOU get involved, a particular soul will not be reached.

There are many more depending on our sacrifices, bold steps, relentless decisions, uncompromising choices, and unconditional Love of Christ.

    DEEP INTIMACY OF LOVE

“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

    John 14:23

Understand that, your love for Jesus is an outflow of His love for you.
Your love for Jesus is not unconditional.

However, your love for Jesus is according to the condition of His love.

Delighting in Jesus is to love Him (Read Loving Jesus 2). To love Jesus is for Him to be your craving, desire, and pleasure.
This is how you keep His commandments or words; by desiring the Lord.

The one who craves, desires, highly esteems, treasures, values and is awe-struck by the Lord is the one who believes in the Lord. Believing in the Lord is to trust or entrust and commit yourself unto Him. It is to accept and receive Him as who He says He is.

Jesus used the word “believe” about 85 times in the Gospel of John. And about 5 times in only John chapter 14.

John 14:12, He said, “Verily, Verily, I say to you, he who believes in Me…”
The expression verily denotes “Most Assuredly” or a strong certainty.
Your believe in the Lord Jesus is an important response of your love to Him.
Contextually, believing in the Lord is also essential in keeping His commandments or words.

This makes you have a special relationship with the Lord.
Yes, “for God so loved the world…” however, it is only those who BELIEVE IN HIM, “SHOULD HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE”. (See John 3:16).
To believe in the Lord is also to RECEIVE the Lord.

Those who did not receive Him were “unbelievers”. (John 1:11-12).

Though the Lord loves all men, He only has a special intimate relationship with those who have believed or received Him.

Three times in John 14, Jesus affirmed the results of keeping (treasuring, valuing, esteeming, believing, receiving, craving and desiring) His words:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever“. John 14:15-16
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” John 14:21
“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and *My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23

Now there are three key expressions in these points:

    – He will give you another Helper, who may abide with you forever.

    – Will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.

    – My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

Now these three key expressions are not separated in reality; they all point to the same matter – DEEP INTIMACY OF LOVE.

See this, to receive the Helper who will abide with you forever is to receive the person of the Holy Spirit.

To be loved by the Father and the Lord even more, whereas they manifest themselves to you, is the work of the Holy Spirit.

And they bring in you to make their home in you, is the inward family relationship with the Holy Spirit. Each of these three expressions, which are the Lord’s promise to keep or delight in His word, points us to a DEEP INTIMACY WITH GOD through the Holy Spirit.

For God to manifest Himself, is to demystify Himself or to strip Himself naked before us. One strip his heart, deep thoughts, emotions and even body naked only in a deep intimate relationship with the other.

The Holy Spirit indwells in the one who has received the Lord.

Now through your new birth experience, you received the Holy Spirit, however, the more you delight yourself in the Lord, the deeper you become intimate with Him. The more you set your affection on the Lord, the more He manifests Himself to you.

Beloved, grow in the intimacy of the Love of Christ.

    DIG DEEPER
    (John 16:7-15; Romans 8:15-16; John 7:37-39)

    WE PRAY
    – Thanking the Lord for indwelling us through the Holy Spirit.

    – We shall behold the manifestation of the Lord in a deeper way as we will grow more intimately in our relationship with Him.

    – The Holy Spirit is present in my heart in the fullness of His love.

    JESUS OUR PATTERN

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one anotherBy this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

     John 13:34-35

About 13 times in the New Testament, we see the phrase “love one another”.

And that reveals the importance of this commandment. How we love one another makes others know we are disciples of Jesus. (John 13:35)

The newness of this commandment of Jesus is Himself. Jesus didn’t just give us His command to love one another. He made Himself the pattern and supply of that commandment.

We are not to love one another by how we love ourselves. We love one another according to the portrait of Jesus.

“This is my commandment: that you love one another as I have loved you” John 15:12 (ISV)

What is the extent of Jesus’s love for us? How has he loved us?

Love is not just an utterance, love is a walk.

“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” 1 John 3:18 (NLT)

Love is a life lived or an action. Love is not suppositious or conjectured. Love is demonstrated and experienced.

Understand that love is more than a feeling. To love is to serve.

Today let us begin to look at some practical ways Jesus demonstrated His love of service for us:

Before Jesus gave the new commandment in John 13:34, look at what happened in the earlier verses:

    “Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end… Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded…
So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.”
    (John 13:1,3-5;12-17)

From these verses, we realize, there is no room to guess what Jesus meant by “as I have loved you” in John 13:34.

    He has shown us a clear example of what we should do in verse 15;

For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

    What did Jesus really do?

He served His disciples by washing their feet.

Feet washing is an art of hospitality among the Israelites.

Most oriental people, including the Israelites, wore sandals instead of shoes in the past, and as they usually went barefoot in the house, frequent washing of the feet was a necessity. Hence among the Israelites, it was the first duty of the host to give his guest water to wash his feet. To omit this was a mark of unfriendliness. This was done either by the wife or the servants.

    Mostly, it’s done before meals.
    (See Genesis 18:4; Genesis 19:2, Genesis 24:32; Genesis 43:24).

This is a symbol of honour, service and humility for one another.

We love one another by serving one another with that which God has given us. And that was what Jesus showed His disciples.

“Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God’s multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God’s unmerited favor]” 1 Peter 4:10 (Amplified Bible).

Beloved, are you in pursuit of your own interest?
Or are you in pursuit of serving the brethren?

As Christ has loved you, serve one another.

    DISPENSE HIS RICH LOVE

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome”

    1 John 5:3 (NKJV).

Understanding God’s love is so essential for your manifestation.

Beloved, do you love the Lord?
    The answer is here:

“If ye love me, keep my commandments… He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.” John 14:15;24 (KJV).

To keep God’s commandment is to walk in obedience to His Word. It is to fulfill an authoritative prescription.

This means the Lord’s commandments are not burdensome. As we have seen in the opening verse (1 John 5:3).

The word “burdensome” is the Greek word, “barus” which means, burdensome grave, or grievous, heavy weightier.

God’s commandment does not lead to a burdensome grave. God’s commandment as revealed in Christ, is Life.

It is an authorized prescription of liberty.

Remember Jesus is the Truth and the Life. (John 14:6; John 1:14; John 1:4).

The Lord’s commandments are not lists of rules and regulations you must follow. He is not speaking of the Law given to Israel through Moses.

The Lord’s commandments are the revelation of Himself.
He is the complete revelation of God.
He is the truth of God that brings freedom (John 8:32)

For Jesus to say, “If” you love me, doesn’t necessarily mean, it’s possible a born-again, may lack His love.

When you become born again, the Love of God is dispensed into you, through, the Holy Spirit. (Romans 5:5).

Thus, you already have the capacity to Love the Lord.

This means that keeping Jesus’ commandments is a product of your love for Him.

Doing what Jesus says, or obeying His Word, is an outflow of the love of God at work in you.

This love is deeply rich and cannot be exhausted nor be quenched by any level of selfish desire.

It is beyond any strong affection and set on doing what Jesus wants. That means love is an empowering ability within you to respond right to the Words of Jesus and act on them.

The more you act on the Word of the Lord, the more you demonstrate His rich love, which is at work in you.

You train yourself to demonstrate His Love and to bear the fruits of His love in you.
