… UNSTABLE IN ALL HIS WAYS

“A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

James 1:8 (KJV)

One term which also has great significance in the New Testament is “Dipsuchos”. This is the Greek word for Double-mindedness.

This word “dipsuchos” is generated from the combined words, “di” or “dis” (which means two or twice respectively) and “psuche” (which means soul or mind). It is an adjective which literally describes one who has two minds or one who is two-souled.

This is a dangerous projectile that attacks the faith of the believer. Many believers have also had their faith affected by this dangerous virus, which is the cause of spiritual instability.

As James (the apostle) mentioned in his epistle, a double-minded person or two-souled man is unstable in all his ways.

The word unstable is from the Greek word, “akatastatos” which means to be “inconstant”, “restless”, “unsettled” and “disorderly”.

This concept of instability can be related to these two Hebrew words:

♦ nadad – which means to wander about or to flee from the post.

♦ tohu – which also means formlessness and confusion.

How can a believer thrive in faith when he is in such a state of mind or soul?

To be two-souled is to create two or double will within you. Such a person cannot advance into maturity and cannot be trustworthy.

When you become two-souled, you vacillate in the pursuit of purpose.

Clearly, James (the just apostle) had a poignant tone in this admonishment of double-mindedness.

Take a look at the verse in the Passion Translation:

“Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive. For the ambivalent person believes one minute and doubts the next. Being undecided makes you become like the rough seas driven and tossed by the wind. You’re up one minute and tossed down the next. When you are half-hearted and wavering it leaves you unstable. Can you really expect to receive anything from the Lord when you’re in that condition?” James 1:6-8 (TPT)

Are you wondering why, you have been a believer for many years and not seeing the growth and stability of life?

Wondering why today you are joyful in the Lord, and another time you are overwhelmed in discouragement?

Wondering why today you make a decision to go the extra mile for the Lord, and another time you don’t feel motivated?

Listen beloved, you have allowed yourself to become two-faced minded.

You need to train your mind through the teaching of Christ, to be focused and single-minded.

The adversary takes delight in pushing you into that state of “two-souled” through contrary winds of doctrine.

He uses doctrines which oppose the revelation of Jesus, to forge a different opinion within your heart.

You have to see this as warfare, and make a decision to:

“…demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God… capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One” 2 Corinthians 10:5 (TPT).

This is not something you do tomorrow. It’s a stand you have to take today and must act out, stand firm on the knowledge of Jesus in your heart.

“Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth.” Ephesians 4:14 (TLB)

Beloved, refuse every form of double-mindedness.

Hallelujah!
