BE “MARY” IN A “MARTHA’S” WORLD 1
“But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things” Luke 10:41 (Amplified Bible)
It is only the wisdom and glory of God’s word which will always be relevant and abide for ever.
“Human beings are frail and temporary, like grass, and the glory of man fleeting like blossoms of the field. The grass dries and withers and the flowers fall off, but the Word of the Lord endures forever! And this is the Word that was announced to you!” 1 Peter 1:24-25 (TPT)
The word of God is the substance of the wisdom of God. It is eternal, thus transcends all civilizations.
There is no time in human advancement or progress of civilization and systems where the word of God shall become irrelevant.
The word of God provides answers to every human situation or challenge. The study and understanding of the scriptures will give you perfect hindsight, insight, foresight, and empower you to have proper oversight at all times.
This means that, the present world is not new to the eternal wisdom of God which is embodied in the scriptures.
Whichever direction the world is facing and the ideologies human activities orbits have clearly been foretold in the scriptures. When you go for the word you shall know how to handle and walk in time.
This present postmodern world is not a strange world to the wisdom of God. When you submit to the scriptures you shall enjoy rich answers and not be overwhelmed by its burdens.
In Luke 10, Jesus and his disciples visited Martha’s home, who also had a sister named Mary.
In preparation for her guests, Martha became exasperated by finishing the numerous household chores.
She was more drenched in household activities and couldn’t even make time to be available for the Lord.
Clearly, anyone reading this may think for a moment that Martha was doing the right thing to set her house in order for her guests. The kind of focus she had on her to-do list, in performing a good deed, is a reflection of the experiences of many believers in this postmodern world.
This present world is as a Martha’s world. It is woven with a culture of constant activity. Family obligations, social commitments and unending financial burdens have dominated people. When people are seen to be busy it’s equated as being successful.
This postmodern world cannot be discussed without this digital distractions which blur commitment towards true personal well-being.
The barrage of notifications keep eroding the attention of people towards the most important things.
Most people are burning out, being shoved off into fatigue and anxiety due to the pressure of gratification and competition with overwhelming bills and human expectations.
The demands of this postmodern world make times spent with the Lord appear to be time wasting. Believers feel though it is good to commune with the Lord and be present at the feet of Jesus, there are other urgent matters which they have to give their time to instead.
They see people making time for the Lord to be lazy and useless. Exactly Martha’s reaction when she saw Mary giving attention to the Lord.
“She had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was continually listening to His teaching. But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.” But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:39-42 (Amplified Bible)
You can be a Mary in a Martha’s world. Refuse to be caught up in this postmodern chaos and demands.
It’s at the feet of Jesus you find true peace, total well-being, rest and refreshment.
