STEWARDS OF GOD’S RESOURCES 5

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” 

1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)

Everyone is expected to be a steward of God’s resources. And you cannot be a faithful steward of God if you are not born again and not submitted to God’s supply of grace.

Mostly when people begin to hear about stewardship and faithfulness, they begin to turn to look at themselves. They assume their faithfulness is dependent only on their efforts.

However, no one can accomplish anything for the Kingdom of God through Christ, without Christ.

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5 (KJV)

To be a faithful steward is also to be fruitful. Your success or fruitfulness is in your faithfulness in utilizing God’s resources for His glory.

And there is nothing God tells you to do without His supply.
Which means it will take God’s grace for you to become faithful.

It is important you understand this matter as we get deeper into the discussion of STEWARDSHIP.

Whatever God tells you to do He gives you the ability to do. You don’t have to be under any pressure in your attempt to become a faithful Steward. We do nothing in the Kingdom of God without the Lord’s help.

Jesus said “My yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30)

Does that mean God’s assignments are not great?

Not at all.

See what David said even about the building of God’s temple:

“Then King David said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God.” 1 Chronicles 29:1 (NIV)

And because God’s tasks are great, it is important to depend on God’s help to get it done.

David the King understood this; he knew it would only take God to have the necessary resources for His work. He knew the greatness of the assignment would not only require the diligence and integrity of his heart and that of his people but also the help of God.

“Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” 1 Chronicles 29:13-14 (NIV)

Though it’s important you decide to work diligently and remain faithful, you can only do anything for the Lord according to His immeasurable power.

“For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power” 1 Corinthians 4:20 (NLT)

You don’t become a faithful and fruitful steward by having confidence in yourself. You become an effective steward by having confidence in God’s ability dispensed into you.

God will not entrust any responsibility to you beyond your ability.

In as much as we have to cultivate and increase the ability of God in us, God patiently entrusts us with His resources to manage.

God is not interested in your failure. Therefore He wouldn’t overload you with tasks which are beyond you. He makes His superabundance of grace available for you to receive and to succeed.

You don’t become a faithful Steward by your own might. You become faithful by the Lord’s help.

Your duty is to make a decision that you are going to become a faithful steward and you are going to submit to God’s help to implement that decision.
