“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever”Â
Psalm 23:6 (NKJV)
Imagine spending all your life begging God for His Goodness and Mercy and then finally you come to the light of this verse of the Bible:
“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23:6 (NLT)
What?
Goodness and Mercy shall pursue me?
What did I do right to deserve that?
It’s interesting men always want to earn their way through. It is that pride in men, that makes them think everything they experience must be by their “Self-effort”. They always want to talk about how they worked hard for it.
Psalm 23, is a prophetic Psalm which taps into God’s love for us in His eternal economy.
The verse 6, specifically reveals the character of God towards His own. It unveils the relentlessness and aggression of the Good Shepherd in tenderly caring for His sheep.
The question is are you His sheep?
This verse is not a request or a beggarly plea. It begins with the word “SURELY” which emphasizes the bold certainty or confident declaration of the Lord’s immovable and unwavering love towards His sheep. The protection and supply of blessings of the Lord is an undisputable guarantee.
“Goodness and Mercy” are expressions of the unending pleasant supply of God’s provision and lovingkindness.
God is good and merciful; He hunts, hounds, overtakes and overwhelms you with His lovingkindness.
“O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34 (KJV)
God doesn’t run out of GOODNESS and MERCY; because that is who He is!
To enjoy the goodness of God, is to enjoy God and His abundant provision of joy, prosperity and pleasure. His MERCY points to His unwavering faithfulness.
The goodness of God is God supplying you with what you don’t have.
It is His favour abounding towards you. Whiles His MERCY is His lovingkindess towards you. When you think you deserve punishment for some wrong you did or for going astray; His mercy (lovingkindness) guards you from the punishment you deserve. The mercy of God endures for ever.
Beloved, live everyday of your life in the same confidence and comfort
that, in every step of life’s journey the LORD’S GOODNESS (abundant supply) and MERCY (lovingkindness) will hound and saturate you.

I refuse to allow any situation, challenge, past mistakes or even past failures to make me feel underserving of the kindness and warmth of my Shepherd-Host.

I live daily in the confidence and comfort that in every step of my life’s journey the LORD’S GOODNESS (abundant supply) and MERCY (lovingkindness) will hound and saturate you.
