HOW TO GET A SOUL SAVED 2 (ABUNDANT FRUIT-BEARERS 10)
“But a life lived loving God bears lasting fruit, for the one who is truly wise wins souls.” Proverbs 11:30 (The Passion Translation).
Â
Soul winning is a demonstration of God’s wisdom and love.
It is our duty to bear much fruits (win souls) through the sharing of the gospel.
Â
“…for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!” (1 Corinthians 9:16)
Â
What a sense of responsibility!
When you receive the good news of Jesus, don’t just keep it to yourself. See it as a responsibility to get others to also receive.
The Samaritan at the well (in John 4), did not keep the truth to herself. She went into the city to get many to receive.
From episode 42, I began to answer the question:
How to win a soul? Or How to get a soul saved?
Â
Understand that you don’t win a soul only by reading on soul-winning. You must practice soul-winning to gain mastery.
From John 4:5-42, there are two main examples of soul-winning.
All these examples involved Jesus. Though we see one directly demonstrated by Jesus, and the other through the Samaritan lady.
And we’ve already gleaned some few practical steps from the Samaritan lady.
Today, we look at the example of Jesus, our master soul-winner.
Jesus did not only see the urgency to win a soul by seeing the multitudes.
He preached both to the crowds and also to individuals. Apart from the Samaritan lady, we see Jesus ministering to other individuals throughout the gospels.
A. When it comes to soul-winning, you must always have a ready mind.
Â
Paul the apostle told Timothy, ” preach the word [as an official messenger]; be ready when the time is right and even when it is not [keep your sense of urgency, whether the opportunity seems favorable or unfavorable, whether convenient or inconvenient, whether welcome or unwelcome]…” 2 Timothy 4:2 (Amplified Bible).
Â
Our Lord was always ready, irrespective of the condition.
B. Have a sense of urgency.
“But He needed to go through Samaria.” John 4:2.
Â
It must be done today and now. No room to procrastinate when prompted by the Lord.
C. Where you find yourself is the right place.
Jesus sat by the well being wearied of His journey. (John 4:6).
D. Break down Barriers to win a soul.
Jesus broke down existing barriers and the ones she put up.
He broke down the barrier of traditional culture, religious differences, race, status and social barrier. (vv 9, 27).
Don’t allow anything to be a barrier. Break down every barrier by the wisdom of God. Everyone deserves the gospel (Romans 3:22-23).
E. Promptly, boldly and warmly initiate a conversation. Don’t be reserved and distant. (vv 7).
F. Creatively start a conversation with present happenings and circumstance to provide opportunities for soul-winning conversations. (vv 7).
Jesus started the conversation by asking a drink and used that to minister to her.
You see someone with a beautiful watch, “You have a beautiful watch there”. “I know someone who always watch over you, I wish you have a good relationship with Him”. You’ve started a conversation.
You see someone with a load of groceries. You quickly help the person out. And you start a conversation leading to the gospel. E.g, “You can also have someone to help you carry the burdens of your heart”.
G. Keep the message simple, with the focus of your mission. To bring change. The message is the satisfaction of God’s love and not condemnation. (vv 10 and 14; 2 Corinthians 5:18-19)
H. Avoid arguments. Your goal is to minister life and not to win religious argument. One way you can avoid arguments is to focus on the individual. Administer to his/her need. Be passionate to see the person experience truth and love (vv 23-24).
The Holy Spirit speaks through you when your motive is love. He shows you the need to meet in the person. (John 4:16-18; 28-29)
DIG DEEPER
(John 4; Acts 2:14-39; Acts 8:26-40)
Â
WE PRAY
That we will be prompt and bold to skillfully and in all wisdom utilize every opportunity to minister the goodnews of Jesus to all those we meet.
